Yea my dads friend is a high up vet and we found out earlier, i hope it doesn't get too bad, or they control it.

im hope cranleigh will still be on, wouldnt they just cancel they livestock stuff? and keep showing/showjumping?? im going to give them a call later, also if we have pre-enterd they should call us to say if its canceled.

Cranleigh is still on but i don't think we are going. We have farmers near us who are very worried about it so don't want to risk it

cranleigh is on without any cattle/ pigs/sheep. i think they should of cancelled they are to near to the outbreak. rather stupid IMO

Shows up here are going ahead without cattle,sheep,goats and pigs. Just with horses!
This is a very busy fortnight up here all our local Agricultural shows take place in this fortnight.

i think that as other animals, people and vehicles can carry the virus from place to place that all of us have a responsibility to try and ensure we do whatever is nessecary to make sure we havent contributed to a possible spread of the disease. Gods sake it didnt take long in 2001 for the wholw country to be affected did it. so frankly i think that any activity in the restricted area that involves animals should be curtailed for the time being. Missing a show or two is nothing compared to what will happen to all the farmers if this thing gets out of control again.

a lot of horses like ours are on a farm with cattle (ours being a rare breed) IMO it would be safer to not move any livestock for a few days just to see what happens. I for one although have got precautions in place do not want to see 10million animals culled again just because i wanted to go to a show and/or was worried about my entry fees. this disease is highly contagious it can be carried on tyres, horses hoofs, etc. Not everybody is as vigirous at carrying out the requirements and it only takes one person at any show to take the risk and that would cause it to spread.

Well said, it's highly contageous and we're talking about people's livelyhoods. There will be other shows.

Ponies and horses can be carriers of foot and mouth but will not contract it.
I totally agree with 'captain' and 'kworth' it is just a pity that not everyone is as thoughtfull as they are.
It will be more that a show or two missed if this is not contained immediately.

Here Here Lucretia well said! I think we all have a responsibility to try and contain this awful virus. Horses and people and dogs can be carriers of disease and there is a risk of spreading of it around.
There will always be those who will whine and moan they can't go to a horse event. boo hoo, thats life so deal with it! Be thankful you're not a farmer whose livelihood and years of work are at stake, especially those who're having their cattle et al slaughtered. If there was an outbreak of Anthrax, I can tell you right here and now that no-one will be allowed to move their horses and if your horse has it and is on a livery yard the whole lot will have to be slaughtered as it is a nasty disease and is passed to humans. Chew on that one whingers!
