10 weeks ago my mare 8yo kwpn, fit and in full work, was hopping lame, farrier Put on soft step pad http://www.serenityequine.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=10&Itemid=77, he said possibile abcess, no heat, possibly bruised sole with the hard grpund.
Called vet got bute, after a few days she was sound, 5 weeks later reshod with pad again, just to be sure as still some sensitivity on sole with pinchers.
This time she was being shod farrrier noted only slight hoof growth on the lame foot.
There are no ridges or lines on the hoof wall, no abcess ever appeared, so all opefully well and just an incident, tho this slower growth is slghtly worrying me, anyone got any similar experinces with their horses.

I suspect your mare is or has been barely noticeably lame on that foot, with the kind of injury that does not bring additional blood to the foot. Extra blood should have caused extra growth. Less weight put on the foot will cause less growth.

I would watch her like a hawk, especially on corners on hard ground, and if the foot appears to get smaller in size or she is unlevel, investigate for intentional ligament/tendon damage inside the foot before it gets worse.

Hopefully it was just a mild bruise causing less weight bearing for a while, it is the most likely explanation, so try not to worry too much.

Thanks I am verging on paranoid..Initially she was slightly uneven, then got worse til she was hopping, the ground here is awful really wet then really dry so gets very rutted, she has had pads on & been sound, as I said they have just been removed.
How do they check for hoof ligament/tendon damage?? Is it scans?
I never got xrays done as farrier & vets were sure it was bruising as so common here.
