Horse has been in on box rest for abut 4 weeks with his latest lami attack. He still has a faint pulse in both feet, though he is not apparently in pain but perhaps uncomfortable so no bute atm. Feeding soaked hay, a little hi-fi lite & Baileys lo-cal plus maintenance dose of Glucosamine. He was negative for Cushings last time. has rotation in both forefeet. I want to do all I can to reduce those pulses, Should I add a supplement such as laminaze or similar, or ring the vet for acp tablets which he was on last time ( Oct 2011). I feel I could be doing more to support his system. He's 16 this year.

I'm new on here, so please feel free to disregard my opinion/advice in favour of someone more experienced!
When my driving horse had lami I gave her HiFi Lite, a general purpose supplement and instead of bute she had Global Herbs Move Free. It was then thought that her liver wasn't functioning properly, so she also had Immune Boost.

I'm sure I have read that Glucosamine and Lamititis are contra-indicated.....

What has your vet suggested?

I 'll admit I haven't spoken to the vet yet this time, but normally she just says soaked hay & nowt else, however I like to feed a balancer of some kind to make sure he's getting all his vits & mins. I used Trinity P45 last time for a while. I hadn't heard Glucosamine & Lami weren't good together I'd be interested in other opinions on that.

My boy was on box rest for about 4 months following lami bought on by weight bearing and (this was in June) I've only just taken him off the Bute. He has rotation to both feet. He was on 2 sachets a day, which was reduced down as he became more comfortable, then half a sachet every other day. It acts as an anti-inflammatory too so vet advised keeping him on it. I still Bute him before/after being shod as advised by vet and farrier. Have also got him on Formula 4 Feet and gut balancer.

Forgot to say, he also has soaked hay and restricted grazing (padded his feet for first few months every time he was turned out), never turn out on frost or hard ground-overall he's hard work!

Good luck.

When my mare had lami a few years ago, I fed soaked hay and 1 x scoop of Happy Hoof and mag ox. This was on the advice of my vet & The Laminitis Trust.

In my experience with my lami horse Baileys lo cal was not good. It has molasses in it for a start and my mares feet were at their worst on it and improved as soon as she came off it. Hi Fi lite also has molasses in it. I would stick to soaked hay and use a non molassed chaff (there are plenty about now) to put a vit min supp in. I use global herbs globalvite but hear lots of good about pro hoof and forage plus.

I have also used global herbs laminitis prone and alpha bute with good success.

I have found out the hard way to really look at and understand the ingredients on bags as most of the ones with lami trust labels I have in fact found not to be suitable for my horse :(

I feed hifi mollasses free to my horses and a bit of unmollassed sugar beet, the over weight one gets mag ox, my other horse is not over weight but is an arab and the sugar or mollasses sends him stupid, I agree about looking at labels they can be really misleading on feeds, I find both of mine do fine on this and I have tried loads of different feeds, also look at supplements they can have hidden sugar also.
