Horses are not allowed on public footpaths, only on bridleways. However, if the woods belong to your yard owner you could ride in there with their permission. If the woods are not owned by your yard owner you could chance being in there and not getting caught but the footprints would be hard to disguise.

Not unless you have permission of the landowner
This. Find out who owns the wood and ask their permission, explaining that you would be careful etc etc. Also bear in mind that should you have an accident you aren't easily accessible in woodland. None of us wants to call on the emergency services or anyone else at this time and this could be a time consuming event.

If yard owner rents it then speak to your yard owner for confirmed permission. If you are on a public footpath without official permission and your horse injures a walker you could find your Public Liabitly insurance invalid and I'm sure neither you or your mum want to be paying potentially into the millions from your own pocket for a legal claim. Hacking in woods is wonderful, I ride on the bridleways that criss cross the Bramham estate. So, speak to your yard owner get a definitive response and if you get the green light enjoy your lovely little bit of extra hacking x

And also theres no way of talking to the yard owner atm as we have tine slots to go up to the yard due to the lockdown i spoke to my friend who uses the footpath to walk home and she said the gate gets locked when the horses are in the summer fields but apparently its all part of the yard so im unsure

Why can you not hack off the yard? Because your parents don't allow it or because you loan the horse and the owner doesn't allow it? If the woods are the only bit of off road you have please ask the yard owner for permission to be in there in writing to cover your for your insurance. Best of luck x

Oh I see, sorry I thought you meant in general. Well yes that makes sense and the same on my yard. The police have also asked us not ride on the roads but luckily we do have a bridleway running through our yard, not that I ride much at the minute as our time on the yard is very limited :(

Yeah same im only allowed at the yard for a hour and a half a day my pony gets quite bored of the school so we thought we would ride around the track i have found out this morning that they have put up no entry signs to foot path users as the footpath goes on to our yard so i dont think we will be seeing anyone any time soon

Im going to go to the woods today and ride i know there's a risk but they have shut the field off to yard liveries only so there should be no one around the farm owner is very nice and lets us ride around the fields in the summer so im sure i will be fine the yard owner has seen me go to the woods as i posted it all over social media and to the yard group chat and nobody had a problem or questioned it we have horses on the yard who can only go out hacking. So they must be going somewhere on the yard as we are not allwoed to go off the yard due to coronavirus im very safe i have my mum so its not like im going alone and i know jayne wouldn't do anything i know shes a animal but im safe x

The reason I mentioned accessibility in the event of an accident comes from an experience riding with a friend who is IMHO a very good rider. For some reason she came off and on the way to the ground she walloped her arm into a tree. Her arm was broken. It was a very frightening experience staying with her and trying to keep her together while we waited for a vehicle to collect her and take her to the nearest place that an ambulance could reach. Only at that point, a good while later, did she get much needed pain relief and then on to hospital.

Yeah i understand my mum broke her back in 8 places while riding in walk we definitely take extra precautions
