Hi folks, got my mares feet done yesterday, only has shoes on front and back ones trimmed, took her in school late afternoon and she is hopping about on front in trot!! fine in walk, but put her into trot and she is hobbling about on the front.
Someone on the yard said she could just be footsore after farrier as she was fine last monday out on a hack, but as her shoes needed doing I have not done anything since, she was late getting shod as farrier could not come out until yesterday.Usually every 6 wks as not just in light work hacks, schooling but 8 wks this time.

How long should this last?? (if indeed she is just footsore?) I have checked her feet and he seems to have done a good job..... (worried in case this could be something more sinister)
many thanks for any replies

It shouldn't "last" at all, it should never have happened.

"Hopping about" suggests a nail bind (they often take a couple of days to irritate the laminae). I think your farrier should come back pronto.

Nail bind or an abscess.

I really don;t miss shoes on my guys at all - such a source of trouble

I'm looking after a shod horse at the moment - packed feet, tendon troubles, underrun feet, long toes, and raising clenches so that she can use them as blades to slash her legs with....better off without them.
