Hello all don't post in here at all as don't have a dog. A friend of mine has a chiauwa (sp) 7years old, male and speyed. He is an absolute delight except he wees everywhere (or possibly marks his territory lots?). Never poos in the house and has access to a dog flap which he uses. This is a longstanding issue.

Are there any deterrants for this for example a product to deter him? It seems to be habit and he is healthy - recently had vet check. Does anyone have any suggestions? Suggestions would be very very welcome as she is due to have her first baby in a few weeks. Apologies if this is a terribly dense question.

It sounds like he needs training! Put him outside every hour so that he dosent do it. When he wees outside reward him. This will take time in an older dog but he should eventually get the idea. When he wees inside he needs to be put straight outside as soon as he does it so that he associates it with going outside, even if hes finished off inside. Does that make sense? Thats how i toilet trained my whippet when i first got her at 8weeks old. Worked perfectly and she picked it up very easily.

She needs to start observing his behaviour and timings (which should be like clockwork given his age) sniffing, circling, etc, then BAM pick him up, put him out, when he goes outside (can use a command word like 'pee!' etc

) and loads of praise when he does this.

I know you say he was vet checked but I would ask about the possibility of a UTI or diabetes, especially given his age.

Nothing to add to above advice. Don't know if its a breed thing but we had a chihuahua male who peed on everyone and everything. His best was on a visiting policemans boot (luckily he was a dog handler).

Thanks for the replies she has toilet trained him and puts him out regularly - he goes out himself to poo? When he is walked he stops all the time to lift his leg - last walk about 40 times!! MM luckily not on people usually inanimate objects! Which is why I wondered whether it wa a territory type issue? CC will suggest the UTI diabetes issue but this is a very longstanding issue and his vet check is very recent (and the issue was discussed) her other dog a Lab has no toileting issues?

Has his wee been 'dipped'? Like a urine test? When my boy was peeing so much (same thing, multiple times every walk) he had an infection.

Does he drink a lot?

Sorry if I am going over old ground, like you say, vet has probably ruled it out already.

Yep all tested as far as I know - will double check tomorrow. Drinking etc not an issue. He was very ill a while ago with some sort of cancer - had treatment and now sees the vet very regularly for checks. Friend says this has been going on for years way before his illness etc - and physically vet is saying he is very well with no issues that would be causing this.

Oh lordy sounds a bit of a nightmare for you!

Hmmm I am happy to be dogless due to parent having multiple JRTs, sister with 3 fairly lovely but a bit bonkers dalmations!!

Will try to google peeing deterrants!!

Oh they are indeedy very hard to train......there is such a thing as a pee post

I kid u not...maybe worth her getting her hands on one, it has a pheramone that encourages the dog to slash on it.
If scooping him up does not work I would bring out the big guns....as in a water pistol and squirt the little mite and reprimand his filthy actions

She needs to find all the p1sh spots and scrub them with all her mite, he will be marking over and over and over again in the same spots....they need irradicating......I would also restrict his access to one room until she gets it under control and make a fuss as suggested when he does it out doors or against his pee post

google it.....I bought one at the whole salers for a dog that was being adopted as the gentleman asked how he could encourage dog to pee in one spot and I had spied it a week earlier when dog food shopping

Obs pee post goes in the garden......but u knew that right
