i read all the books repeatedly as a kid. the very last one when thowra goes off to die was just too horrible, i had to pretend it didn't really happen.

There were quite a lot of Brumby books in the end but the main ones (with Thowra) were:
The Silver Brumby
The Silver Brumby's Daughter
Silver Brumbies of the South
Silver Brumby Kingdom
Silver Brumby whirlwind
Son of the whirlwind
The really good stories were in the first 4 books (with Lightning, Kunama and Baringa) and then things got a bit odd in the last two - all Thowra's mares have died in the opening page of Silver Brumby whirlwind while Thowra himelf dies in Son of the whirlwind. He did get his wish though of dying up on the Ramshead, I think in the cave he was born in but someone may correct me on that.

oh havent read son of the whirlwind so thats probably why. didnt realise his mares had all died in the Silver Brumby whirlwind though?
