an exercise bandage should always be elastic, and a pad used underneath, the idea is to support the structure of the leg including tendons.

I would have to say be carful if using them, as personally i see far to many done up to high, restricting the joint action, and to tight, although ment to be tightish when bandage removed there should not be line marks.

using fleece/stable type bandages offers little support but will help a horses leg to over heat there for if hard work is carried out or for a long period of time not only do you risk the legs sweating under the bandage it is possible to over heat the entre structure of the leg.

now.. not that im anal or anything but honestly id rather pay out for a good quality type of support boot, there are a few on the market although not cheap.

Thank you. Im debating whether or not to get bandages or a boot. Its more for when im teaching my horse to bow, as apposed to riding. Depeding really on what would give more protection for this sort of training.

Just offering a different opinion - in racing the exercise bandages are always fleecy and you bandage straight onto the horses leg without pads. The velcro is ALWAYS taped to prevent the bandage from coming undone. Especially on a work morning as that would be catastrophic. They are used on horses which have broken down so do offer support and also help prevent the horse from knocking it's joints etc.
