Things just get better and better,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NOT!!! Have just heard tonight that the outdoor arena, lunge ring and horse walker are gonna be locked up due to 'someone' not pooh picking up after their horse!!!! This has not been an issue untill about a month ago when some new liveries arrived. Everyone has been asked to do so, had letters etc but still happening. We pay £40 per wk DIY which is supposed to include full use of all facilities. At a loss to what to do. Not many yards nearby.

Ooh no!! I'd have a word with YO and explain that it's not been a problem up until recently and that you could make some form of scheme so that people know who's been in there and so who's left the poo in there.

E.g booking /signing in a sheet so that people can track back to see who must have last been in there. And perhaps a sign saying "Have you cleared the school?" to remind people as they leave.

How long is it locked for?

what? That's terrible. I would speak to your YO straight away..do you have a contract that states you can use the arenas etc?? I would be asking for a reduction in livery if nothing else!

I would speak to your YM, explain that it isn't you who has done this (assume they know this already!), and that you understand why they are doing it, but you are being penalised for something that isn't your fault, and would they give you a reduction in livery for the weeks that the facilities are locked up, as the facilities are part of what you are paying for.

How annoying. We have the same policy at our yard, I've been there a year and the menage has been locked up a couple of times due to lazy arse people not poo picking after themselves.

I witnessed a couple of people do it in the year I have been there, and for a couple of months I just kept my head down.. but now I grass them up!!

Don't know what to suggest really, sorry. Some people just don't care.

Your contract is £40 for the livery including the facilities, therefore the YO is in breach

. Ditto above and say you'll drop your payments to £20 (or whatever the going rate is for what you do get) until such time as the facilities are unlocked.

Hugs hun.

Don't know how long this will be for. I have spoken to YM and she isn't doing alot. I suggested that she hold a yard meeting and address everyone at the same time but this didn't register at all. We have a book for people to book the school and we know who was in there last night but unless they are seen YM says you can't prove it.
We do have a contract and I will say that we won't be prepared to pay full amount if this does go ahead.
Apart from that I think all I can do is look elsewhere.

Cougar it's not the horses fault I'm afraid it comes down to yard politics and humans. Stand your ground and only pay £15 if it was me until this is resolved and I would be looking for another yard in the meantime especially if YO is not sorting this out immediately

if you have agreed with the YO that your £40 a week includes use of those facilities which would have been assumed when you moved there then they have breached their contract and yes I agree that you should offer to pay less (isnt £40 a lot for DIY with no facilities!?)

Yes £40 for DIY is alot but there is not much choice aound here unfortunately. I am not happy to pay this if they carry out their threat. But feel like they have us over a barrel. Its oe of those situations where the liveries need them more than they need us.

Id refuse to pay the full price as well, what a cheek, just locking it up, if they cared about the welfare of the horses, ie needing exercise they wouldn't do that, thay should just keep an eye out to find out who's doing it.

for 40 quid a week they should be picking up the poo, tell them that you have all had a chat and will be leaving if they dont unlock at once ,honestlysome people x

I am begining to feel very disallusioned by it all. Have just had a txt from fellow liver who knows a place a little further out for £15 per week, stable, field, school. So will have to tink very carefully. The problem is like I said, we are not that important to the owners. We need them more than they need us.

That is exactly what I am now seriously thinking about. It really is a hell of alot to pay anyway for DIY without all the aggro. Just need to be sure that I can find somewhere where Beanie will be as happy and safe. Any ideas (Suffolk- Bury St Edmunds)????

Just to look at this in a different way.....

Are they being locked up so you have to ask for the key to be able to use them? If so then it would be a way to keep track by the YO of who has used the facilities and not cleaned up after themselves but is not intended to prevent you from using the facilities.

If not then you could always pose this as a question to the YO which if it hadn't occurred to them then might.

Stupid policy. All the sensible people who did look after the school will also be the ones who want to exercise their horses regularly and won't put up with losing facilities. They'll leave and the yard will be left with the lazy plebs who'll be glad not to have to ride. Fine for them but its the YO who'll be left with a yard-full of plebs. The YO should vet people they let on in the first place for their attitude, not penalize the long term liveries.

I've been on livery yards where the YM behaves like this before

It creates a terrible atmosphere and makes the yard somewhere I'd rather avoid. I'd never PAY to be treated like that again

Move your horse.

At my last yard everyone had one day to do poo picking could you suggest this to your YO/YM
Person a - monday
Person b - tuesday etc If it was not done a fine was given, so if it is not done on a monday person a would be fined £10. If it were me I would not continue paying the full amount for facilities I cannot use. I do hope that something is sorted out soon so that you and the other liveries who clear up after themselves do not loose out to the people who are too lazy to do the same!
