Currently looking for a nice full up 14.2hh jumping pony (me being adult at 8 stone lol!) and finally decided that its time to retire my boy from jumping at 27....he kinda gave me a sign yesterday!

Looked high and low, near and far and every single pony that has been suitable is to stay at current yard!!!! - drives me nuts! I have 3 others, so can hardly travel to another yard as we have our own yard....

5* home....ready and waiting and cant find a thing!

I know what its like loaning a horse out I have done it but I would never insist it stayed at our yard as it is going to be very lucky to find someone nearby that wants to keep it there!!

I blame the people that screwed up loaning in the last few years by putting the fear of god in horse owners hearts!!

So if you come across a nice jumping pony age irrelevant as are looks, in berks and oxon area, please PM me!!!

There are chancers that ruin it for possible good loaners. I would be very weary now about loaning a horse to a different yard

What about Chestnut Cob's Rhyn???? She is desperate to find a good loan home for him

I know what you mean! But to be honest I have found that the people who want the horses to be kept at present yard are not great ¨owners¨ . I am sure you will find a perfect pony soon

What makes you say that Toto? Just curious really as when-ever i have loaned mine out, they have had to stay at their current yard for a few reasons - when my shetland was out on loan, it was a good job he stayed on the same yard as i found out a few things that they were/were not doing as in the contract and had to end the agreement.
More recently, i have my own yard and insist they stay there - why? as we are one of the only yards in the area that has winter turnout and that is what my horses are used to. i've had people call and ask to move them, one said that even in summer if it rains shes stables them 24/7 - errr not where i want one of mine to go!
hence - i was just wondering what experiences you have come across to make you believe the above?

ps - i'm having a bad day and hope my post makes sense!

I'm sure you will find the perfect pony soon

Im just about to advertise my lad. I am specifying he must stay on present yard.

Partly because it is only for 6 months, and I want my friends and family to keep and eye on him and check that he is being looked after as i cant do it myself as i will be abroad

I wouldnt consider myself to a bad owner.

Could you not perhaps see horses that are close to you and then have a word with the owner and say have a months trial at the current yard then see if you can move yeards when the owner is happy you both suit each other.

I totally agree. I was looking for a friend a few months ago and couldn't find a single one to even go and look at in a 200 mile radius!!

Appart from that I don't think I would want to loan a horse and have it's owner/friends etc looking over my shoulder the whole time. When you have a horse on full loan, IMO, you should be able to do what you like with it as long as your not breaking the T & C's of the contract.

if i was short term loaning a horse out id want it to stay at its own yard, yes, as id not be sure of getting him a place back if he left and another livery moved on.

Im sorry but i disagree with you there. My pony is for loan to stay on current yard as ive loaned him out before and he has moved yards and stressed him self untill he got colic. Hes come back every time in a complete mess. Ive had him back massively underweight and more worrying massively overweight (laminitic welshie), looking like he hadnt been groomed for months, with saddle sores, practicaly crippled by badly fitting tack (the people who loaned him didnt use the tack i supplied with him), i even went to see him once on bonfire night and the people who had him on loan were holding a fireworks display outside his stable, poor pony was standing in the back of his box shaking and jumping everytime something went off! (at that point mum went and got the trailer and we took him straight home)

He is old and settled here but not ready to retire (he is very very happy when i rope a tiny rider into takeing him out for a hack) hence whilst i want him ridden i dont want him to leave my yard. Its for his benefit and mental well being and also for my peace of mind. ive had enough of people messing him and me around and if he is on my yard i can stop the problems before they start. I owe him more then to let him end up in a state again.

I disagree. My pony is for loan to stay at current yard. He is very riggy and therefor can not be turned out with most geldings as he tries to kill them and mounts mares, hes okay in with my other pony which is why id like him to stay so he doesnt get fenced off away from others because of his behaviour. Not only that, i worry and i know that people at my yard will keep an eye on him for me when im not there. I would consider letting him move once the person had loaned him for a few months and i knew i could trust them, so long as they had a mare that they were happy he could go in with that would be mounted regularly lol or a gelding that he got on with (rarely happens).
