We hired Howe Country Centre and took my lad round some jumps. I'm extremely pleased with how he went bearing in mind all he done was hacking for 3 years before we got him 5 months ago :) I just need to build up my confidence, so any tips?

Had a lesson on him today to and he proved what a star he is by doing passage with the aid of poles :D

Looking good! For confidence, trust your horse.. He's the one that's looking after you and he looks to be doing a fab job! He'll let you know if he's nervous or not sure if he trusts himself to get you both over it safely. Take it slow and enjoy!! :D

Confidence should come with time and practice! The pony looks to be enjoying himself but also giving them plenty of space which suggests he might be lacking a little confidence too.

Practice, keep them small and you will be fine :)

Lovely pony!

When I was lacking in confidence, what I did was kept them low and kept jumping that height. When me and pony grew in confidence, I then upped them bit by bit and we were flying over 2'9 jumps. (not bit to lots, but was achievement to me and pony).

I haven't jumped for a couple of years and so am just taking it slowly again - for my confidence :)

Confidence comes in time.

Looks like you are getting your confidence pretty quick! He's gorgeous! You have some fab places up there in Scotland - am most jealous. I was at Ingliston the other day and was green with envy :)

Thank you :) Yeah there are some good places but i have only ever been to Howe but would like to go to Ingliston :)

Oh he is lovely! I never realised you had an Appy! :)

My tip for gaining confidence is make sure you jump regularly but keep it small for now and only do what you are happy with and once you are completely happy with what you are doing, make the jumps a little bit higher, or try a slightly more difficult jumping exercise. Take it slowly and the more good experiences you have, the more confident you will become.

Good luck! :)

CC - fab but try and not get him so deep... Second pic he's very over his shoulder (IMO). That's all I can say really. I got my confience by jumping grids with crosses at the start and worked up to like 1 30 at the end :) :) Hope this helps x

Thanks lol he's actually an ISH but has Appy somewhere back in his lines :)
Yeah was talking to my RI earlier and we think that my confidence is so low because he has a lot of power and balloons himself over jumps and this is because i tend to hold him back because he is unsure of where to take off so will jump deep or take away strides :) I'm gonna get a good few lessons on him and really work on placing him :)

Well done you.... you both look great - reminds me of when I was younger and had a 16.1 spotted boy, he gave me so much confidence but as I was younger I learnt to trust him. His ability was natural. Enjoy your boy he looks lovely - I can't even think about jumping these days - probably why I ride western! The jump poles get used to make a box on the ground to do a 360º turn in! (and the 16.1hh has been replaced with 15hh & 15.2, nearer the ground). Good luck - for a little confidence try Rescue Remedy spray (brill).

Howe's just down the road from me, but everyone at my yard still calls it Dabbs! lol. Samerlin - it's just before Giffordtown if that helps.

Just wanted to say what a looker he is, and it looks like you had a lot of fun! Personally I think a good RI can go a long way in terms of confidence, which will hopefully flourish when you get the striding right and are confident enough! Striding lessons only need be over small fences too: that way even if it's wrong, the horse can still make it over. Plus it's great for keeping up the energy as lots of horses like to let their engines die approaching tinyOh, and Ingliston looks amazing. We have quite a few riders compete there in the BS Seniors. Wonder if any want a free groom so that I can nose around... lol!

ETA: Ingliston looks amazing. People on our yard go regularly to compete in the Senior BS. I wonder if they want a free groom so that I can nose about?! lol.

Thank you :) My friends still call it Dabbs too! lol. My RI has done wonders with us. He tends to get lazy with his back legs and just trail them through the jumps, so we've been doing some bounces on angles and different distances on angles as well :)

aww i think the same about Ingliston :)
