Sooo many adverts at the moment say horse is bored in field hence for sale......

I want to know if that is the REAL reason. Often these are the ones who are also sold as seen/sold from field/sold in field condition.

It always makes me think there is a hidden reason. Sorry for random post but was just pondering

I dont see how a horse can be bored in a field.. they are designed to graze for 18 hours or there abouts a day.. its ther programming. It us who tinks there bored.. Stear well clear.

my cob gets bored and depressed just in the field and not worked - if thye were previously worked they are used to it i assume. horses in the wild roam not wander round the same field day and night?

sold from field often suggests someone hasnt been able to rid eit and has just thrown it away, or its been injured and again thrown away!

This is the exact reason a friend of mine is going to have difficulty selling her horse. He has been turned away for almost a year due to personal problems, those problems have got worse and she has to sell him but hasn't the time to get him back in work.
It really is a genuine reason, but it puts people off because they assume injury etc etc.

OH's mare gets ridden only occasionally...she is a glorified field ornament......I was talking to her only last night and not once did she mention she was bored

I wouldn't word an advert like that, but when Henry was off work for two weeks, he was practically jumping the gate after me, when I left the field. He loves going out! Like Littleme says, they're designed to wander and graze, not look at the horsey equivalent of 4 walls. Depends on how much happens at your yard, I suppose!

Exactly fran.

Horsea CAN enjoy doing things as much as dogs enjoy going for walks. It's only by making them do unenjoyable things like endless schooling that we destroy that curiosity and 'fun' attitude. If a horse has never had this done to him, then he will miss going out and having fun, even moreso if he is used to being with another horsey friend and can't go along anymore.

People who say otherwise are quite unbelievable, as they are the same people who will say in the same breath how a hunt horse/showjumper/racer really enjoys his work, you can't have it both ways!

I hope horses don't get too bored just grazing. Last year my vet asked me to take on an 8 year old TB who was otherwise going to be PTS through having a back problem (can't be ridden). I have 7 acres of grazing so I said he could come and live with me. He has 2 grazing companions but doesn't ever leave his fields (which are a mixture of pasture and woodland) and I have often wondered if he is bored stiff.
He seem ok, but how would I know? And if he was bored what should I do about it?

mine are happy in the field but its large and varied terrain (pasture woods river hills) and its almost like they think theyre wild

but when im getting ready to ride everyone wants to come out so they must enjoy being ridden too.

Well I got a couple for sale at the mo that are abit fat and unfit, we have been lacking time to do anything with them (I mean they are getting ridden about once a week we are THAT busy!), we keep saying we are going to get them fit and out and about ready to sell but never get time so I have final said enoughs enough and advertised them for less than they'd be worth fit and competing BUT I have never said they are for sale because they are bored, they are for sale because I am fed up of having ornaments that could be out doing a job and someone could be enjoying them!

Perhaps we could have a speedo fitted to horses, then we could sell with xxxxxxx miles, full service history, mot, new shoes, good bodywork no dents, spent£££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ with receipts, sale due to new job with company horse
