Ok so WHOSE fault is it then?

RANT Alert ... Im going to be in the market for a new horse shortly due to my loan mare going back to her owner (prob why im in a foul mood as well!)

So im going through adverts and time and time again im seeing the same reasons/ excuses!

Is it me? Am I over thinking this or is it the norm to want to sell a horse and say 'through no fault of his own' or 'due to work commitments' and other such things?

Are all these owners getting new more stressful jobs? (I'll be damned if i can find one!!) and so whose fault is it that you are selling the animal, or are they just making excuses?

Rant over .. now please find me a horse to make me feel better and you get tea and cakes all afternoon if you don't beat me down for my post :D

Aunt had to sell her horse through no fault of his own..... financial problems :o

Then there was a friend who had a baby and simply didn't think she would be able to do the work load of 3 horses and a new born :o

All none of the horses fault :D

I guess they put that so potential buyers don't think there is a problem with the horse, especially if its cheap.

What are you looking for? I have some free time (job hunting atm) so can have a look for you. PM if you prefer.

"through no fault of his/her own" is letting prospective buyers know the reason the horse is for sale is genuine and not because of any vice /behaviour/ lack of performance / lameness. I dont see the problem

Just trying to emphasise that there's nothing dodgy about the horse. Think atm a lot of horses being sold because owners unable to keep them rather than trying to get shot of something because it has an issue. Chear up, hope you find the right one for you.;)

It's a waste of words however you look at it.

It also irritated me when the ad is like this:

Here we have for sale a.....

I have owned Charlie for x years and he is for sale due to no fault of his own.

(Title) Sad sale of a wonderful....

Fgs get to the point put the important details in an advert not your life story.:D

Oh Antw I am sorry to hear your loan mare is going back! What are your criteria I like horse shopping :-)

The phrase is just usual filler isn't it, doesn't annoy me as much as NO TIMEWASTERS!

I sold my last horse due to moving to the UK, from Aus. Had I not been leaving the country, there was no way that I would have sold him, he was a great little horse only just hitting his straps and I was really enjoying him.

So yes, he was being sold, though no fault of his own, its an expression that to me means that the owner would love to keep him, except their circumstances have changed. As long as they do their best to find a suitable home (and to me I was negotiable on price for the best home), whats the problem?

People have all reasons for selling horses, who are you to judge?

The thing that annoys me are in ads for horses to share where the advertiser says "looking for a sharer for financial reasons". No way would I go and look at a horse for share if I knew the owner just wanted my money. Though at least it's probably honest....
Slightly off-topic I know but not worthy of it's own thread.

The one I hate is "heartbreaking sale". If it's that hard, don't sell him.

I had a friend who had to sell her saint of a horse to fund IVF treatment. That could have been described as heartbreaking but it's the choice she made and it's nobody's business but hers. She never mentioned anything in the ad or to anybody who phoned and the first people who came to see him bought him for a considerable sum. If they're good and the advert describes them well, they'll sell themselves without any stupid cliches.

16hh - 17.2hh

Age not important but nothing older than say 16! (ish) and not too young i'm having to teach it!

Prefer Gelding (I've been put off by SERIOUS mareish behaviour)

I'm in Buckinghamshire but obviously can travel a bit further!

Decent All rounder that will be happy to do a little of everything from low level dressage, hacking out alone/ company, fun rides, jumping .. all just fun so nothing high level. Something with a bit of bone would be nice as im about 13 ish stone although i think my budget limits me to Thoroughbreds but im not totally allergic to them obviously :)

Budget is up to 2k :o

Thank youuuuuu :D You guys always make me feel better x

Don't see anything wrong with it. We are in a recession and if circumstances change I think if I was buying I'd like to see it was actually a genuine sad sale and how long they had owned etc.

Also don't see a problem with 'no time wasters' as it might put off people who just fancy a free ride when it might be a difficult thing you having to sell. I sold mine before uni as wouldn't have had time or finances so yes there is such a thing as a sad sale.

I'd much rather see that in an advert than 'for sale as dangerous and tried to kill me' :D;)

But surely when you see such a large number of adverts with it in just to 'bulk out' the ad you start to get cynical and think maybe the 'no fault of his own' actually means 'for sale as tried to kill me' :p LOL :D

Ant, are you on the local Facebook equine groups?
If not, pm me and will send you the links, as the MK one especially has some nice horses on there fairly frequently.

How far roughly would you be willing to travel?

Billabongchick - if you wanted to go for a free ride you would have to be ballsy enough to go along pretending you are going to buy a horse in any case, so I don't think saying NO TIMEWASTERS is going to put those people off I'm afraid. Maybe if it said 'heartbreaking sale of child's beloved pony due to bankruptcy resulting from serious illness' I would hope some of them would have a heart and go do it at a faceless dealer instead... but that's probably optimistic.

I was going to put this on my horses advert, I've recently had a baby and don't have the time he deserves now, but I don't think il put that now. :(

What about stoke on Trent? I have a dealer called CNG equine on my facebook that seem to only deal in nice big proper horses you would like! They have a lovely dressage schoolmistress I would defo be going to see if I was looking. I have not been to see any there or anything but from what I hear they are quite good... Last thing I saw someone was moaning about being told they would be too novice for a promising comp horse, hardly a bad thing haha.. http://www.facebook.com/cng.equine

Put it anyway if you'd want - its perfectly legitimate to want to let people know that you are selling due to a change in your personal circumstnces.

If people then want to read something else into it, thats their problem.

Thanks but doesnt seem to have any horses for sale on it! I am rubbish on FB though as I loath that site!

As others have said - I agree it is just to point out that if they could keep it they probably would, the issue isn't the horse - probably another extraneous factor.

With regard to the fault issue.... Well it's nobody's fault. It is a choice whether that be a forced one or not....
