Following on from my friends working Springer who has an enlarged heart and is now deaf this is the drugs he is on.

For his heart Cardisure 10ml

Diaretic Frusemide 40ml

He is now on antibotics Metronidazole and Clavucill one is for his chest and the other is for his ears, the vet is blasting him with these in case he has a long term infection.

I spoke to my friend about the Taurine supplement and she is happy to give it a go.

Any more thoughts would be much appreciated and many thanks for your help so far.

Quick answer as I dont want to leave this to long but have to run off again now...

Could be related to the Frusemide..Metronidazole is a potential but less likely culprit...but both of those drugs sound like they are needed and appropriate in his case so I am not sure what else can be done but adopt a wait and see attitude... when he comes off the metronidazole or reduces the dose of frusemide(if it can be reduced further, that may not be possible depending on his condition and signs) there is a chance he may recover some hearing.

However it could be related to his ear condition as well and in some cases where there is longterm damage or chronic changes there is no guarantee that hearing will return I am afraid :(

All you can do is wait and see in cases like these.

Thank you Aru for taking the time to reply, I will pass this on to my friend and fingers crossed his hearing returns. I will put an update later after the meds have had time to take affect and the dosage has been tweaked.
