For the EDT's - or others with exp. of blind wolf teeth

I have a 3 year old just being backed who has two blind wolf teeth - he IS tender on one of them and the bit does touch it from time to time. Would you wait a while (how long?) to see if it will come through - or get it removed now?

as it is blind wolf teeth,they are subcantanious(under the skin) then it is a vet job anyway as it would mean cutting the skin,depending on how bad it is effecting your horse then i would suggest leaving them to come through,you must also remember that wolf teeth are premolars and sometimes if you have them taken out then there is a possibility of a permanant wolf tooth coming through,which depending on the horse then that tooth may need taking out also,its really a case of how your horse is reacting to it as to what you decide to do and also if it is the wolf teeth effecting the horse or maybe it might be that he is still learning and is a bit green

I try and leave them as long as i can normally - to have them removed is vet job to cut an opening in the gum and remove the tooth thru that - not nice.

Maybe leave him a little longer if he isnt overly unhappy?

Remove them now as if you leave them the can ossify to the the avleolar socket and be v v difficult to remove and more likely to leave fragments. 3 is the perfect age and if you say he is tender to touch with your finger then if you do accidentally sock him in the mouth then it will be v painful for them.

Thanks all! That confirms my own thoughts, Victoria - he notices if you touch the area with a finger - so he's not going to make any progress in ridden work until we get him sorted.
