i'm rather fed up pi55ed off depressed blah blah blah. i recently applied to a veterinary nursing course i have all the appropriate qualifications or higher and yet i have been rejected on the basis that i do not have 10days or more experience actually working in a veterinary practice. I'm not saying that they should take exception to myself but i have set up work expereince for myself at a local vet practice over the summer but they wont even give me an interview so i can explain this to them. So now i have to do a years vet nurse prepatory course for the sake of 10 days thats another years worth of loans and tuition fees. sorry very self indulgent just rather upset.

Why not take a year out and do your 10 days work experience over that time and re-apply next year? No sense in doing another course if you don't need to. You might be able to get a job in a vets practice that would help you in future and earn you a bit of cash during that week.

Alternatively why not phone the college and explain to them that you will have completed the 10 days by the time the course starts and see if they can reconsider?

well the point in doing the other course is i would get the experience working in a practice. i doubt anyone would pay me to work in the practice with no expereience or qualifictaions. aslo i told them on the application them i was setting up work expereince they just said they had eniugh applicants to choose from that already had the experince.

thanks anyway though

Try to find a job as a kennel maid. I did it for 18 months before I came to vet school and I was paid. It's not very glamorous, just cleaning out kennels, sweeping floors, cleaning op rooms and packing surgical kits, but it will get you experience in a vets and some money.

I worked as a vet nurse once over the summer holidays from uni. I had no official qualifications at all apart from my highers (Scottish a-levels)

All I'm saying is that it might be possible to get an entry level job as a vet nurse without the qualifications and then get the qualifications once you are working?

Hope you do ok. Even if you have to reapply again next year it will go by very quickly I promise xx

ETS - My mum is also a part time vet nurse and she doesn't have any official qualifications either. They have someone who goes in on a Saturday to volunteer who wans to go into vet school and they are always happy to have people go in and help

by having the 10 days experience before application then you have shown the course organizer that you really want to do it. this sort of course is very competitive, did you mention in your application that you had this set up or did you hope that they could read your mind? you have to treat these applications that they are going to be read by people who know nothing spell it out, loads of people will have applied so you are going to compete with people who might have years of experience and therefore show that they really want it

good luck
