For those in the know about bits

My horse goes very well in a d-ring snaffle with copper rollers. But he has a very low palate and the single joint occassionally cuases him to throw his head up so I know he's not 100% comfortable. I do dressage in a NS verbindend which is shaped and he goes lovely in it, but he leans on it so much and I don't have the strength to hold him up especially when we're jumping or hacking and he's pulling.

I've tried a waterford as I know this is difficult to lean on but I don't seem to have much control in this, not sure why. So basically I am wondering if there is suck thing as a bit with rollers that is shaped better to the mouth???
 
I'm not too sure, but there are various bit advice websites. If you google bit advice (if not already done so) I hope you find a solution soon.

Sprenger do one that has a roller in the lozenge called a WH Ultra....hold on I'll go and find it......

It comes in a loose ring as well which is a bit cheaper.

It might also be worth trying the NS demi anky. It's a curved single joint so doesn't cause palate pressure. He's maybe leaning on the verbindend as he doesn't like the lozenge. Mine hates lozenge links.

I think that new Horse bit bank (been taken over I believe) does trials on both these. They say they can get bits made up specially as well.

I would have thought the first one as it's closest to your single jointed bit but will prevent the palate pressure. I actually ordered a bit from Risley today and though not in stock they phoned abbey bits who are making it for me and sending it directly. Great service. Maybe give them a phone and ask them for advice. The other 2 I'm not sure if you'd get much different a response than your waterford.
Bitting is a total minefield and if you can trial them first it can save a lot of hassle. That said, few places trial these unusual bits.
 
I really don't want a ful cheek bit; I didn't really want a d ring snaffle but couldn't find it in loose ring.

Is there any one who makes bits to a custom design?
