Hey everyone,

I am just putting on a post really to see how you all manage without a car?
Is your stables near your house or do you get a bus etc?
Just because at the moment I dont have a car .. and I get the bus to the horse which is about an hour away, I don't take my dog up to the horses either but on Monday I have a job trial at my local stables where I will still have to get a bus out there untill I get my car.

My step dad works at home aswell but I just feel guilty on my dog really because im sure he would love to go to the horses and run around with the other dogs, although id keep him on an exention lead. But I have never taken my dog on a bus, and im just worried to take him on a bus really incase he does something naughty, as he is a boy. Hes good as gold in the car but I just don't know wether id trust him on the bus. I have to get 2 different busses aswell .. one bus to town then the other to the stables.

Im just wondering how you all manage really, do any of you take your dogs on the bus to the stables and how did you get them used to it?? Lol.

xx

I dont drive(although I am in the process of rectifying this as the other half is fed up haha) I used to beg lifts, get taxis, walk to get the yard all with my Jack Russell who was a pup at the time. I walked over an hour to get to the neds so by the time I got there he was shattered haha. Never ventured onto the bus with him though im not brave enough for that. What type of dog do you have? If hes good in the car its worth trying the bus you can always get off at the next stop and take him home if hes naughty.

I have a scotty x westie. Yeah, im just worried because he doesnt bite or anything, just sometimes he can growl, and ill get so uptight with him as Id be really nervous. But I would LOVE him to come to the horses with me lol. Im not sure when im going to get a car yet, probs not until ages away because im too scard to take my theory haha. Although im really close to taking my practical.

Hmm im not sure, I might try him one day to like get a short hop or something to the next bus stop haha .. to see how he is :S .. I just dont want him to end up doing something naughty like trying to mark his teritory or something :S Lol thats what im worried about but I see so many people with there dogs on the bus and always think to myself .. gosh I wish my dog was like that haha. xx

My friend took my staffie bitch onto a bus on a short hop when it was raining rather than walk back to the office.

They were thrown off at the next stop. Jazz was a seasoned car traveller but apparently didn't "do" public transport!

You are allowed to take pets on the bus/train with the drivers consent, provided your dog is well trained I don't see it will be a problem.

Haha - how interesting. I love the one where your friends dog didnt "do" public transport haha .. im worried incase that ends up like my dog :D haha .. I might just wait until I got my car? lol Or just do a short hop to see what he does lol xx

I've taken my dog (jack russell x ) on the bus without any problems a few times... First time he sat on my lap, and i then trained him to be carried in my rucksack, so he's in a bag... no chance of any accidents then :)

Not quite the same but my dad has a dog whom he takes on the bus with him - he doesn't drive anymore due to health reasons and he keeps active and goes different places with his dog all the time!! His dog behaves well in a car and is brilliant on the bus, give it a try, if he's naughty you can always get off at the next stop!!

Before I got a car I used to get the train to the yard with the dogs on the days my parents couldn't take me. So there was me in filthy smelly yard clothes, 4 dogs (lab, foxhound, lurcher pup and a yorkie) and to make matters worse our dogs don't have leads so they were attached to belts/ties/bits of string. People gave me the wierdest looks - I wonder why? :o
