..if say your horse is on DIY grass livery..turned out a lot/24/7

How many days do they ride?

Do u have contracts?
 
I don't charge mine anything as she is friend of the family. However she does muck out etc on the days she rides which is usually 2 or 3 times a week.
 
i would also be interested, as when i was going to share my first horse i was going to pay £10 a week then half towards shoes, do 3/4 days a week including stable duties no it seems that around £20 + is the norm
 
Think alot depends on where you're based. My sharer pays £100 a month but doesn't have to muck out - just turn up and ride - she does 3 days a week
 
When I shared 3 years ago I paid £20 a week and had access to them 7 days a week (owner had 2 horses so always a ride for both of us) with a contract that said minimum 3 days and I wasn't expected to do mornings but did all the jobs when I was down, shared poo picking at weekends etc etc. It worked well.
 
When my sister had a share pony she paid £25 a week and rode two or three days I think but the pony was on full livery so she did nothing other than ride.
 
I share two horses at the moment, I don't pay anything in fact the owners offered to pay me! Basically I ride whenever I can as both owners are a bit restricted with days to ride, and I usually end up doing both horses twice per week at least. I also do anything I can to help, eg. skip fields (horses are all out 24/7), feed, hay, re-rug etc. I also cover when anyone is on holiday, and two of the three owners went on holiday last week (there are three owners and four horses) and I helped the remaining owner and got paid for it.
I don't have a contract and never have with any shares (I've had four now) or my loan pony I used to have, but I've been extremely lucky with all of them and have had no major issues.
I actually think I have been very, very lucky with all my share horses!
 
mine pays £12 a day, does two days a week, insists on paying for the lights herself (we used to buy her tokens but she doesnt let us now!) and as we on DIY she does everything on that day. She wants to increase to 3 days a week in the near future and we are in London so I think the price is about right - I've thrown in a few freebie days for her aswell the past few months, when I go on holiday she is welcome to have him for 2 weeks for free aswell!
 
I think it varies greatly on your location and how much your horses upkeep is as well as how often the sharer will be riding as well as what you are hoping to gain from the agreement.

Recently whilst looking for a horse to have on full loan I have been offered share agreements ranging from £20 p/w + half of shoeing (for as many days as I wished) right up to £169 per month (for 2 days a week) which seemed rather steep considering thats about what I pay per month to keep my new boy and thats whilst paying livery, feed etc, but i'm rather lucky with him as he's a fantastic doer!

One lady said she worked out roughly how much it cost her to keep her horse per day (£15 in this instance) and would then expect this per ride from anybody sharing her horse. The monthly costs to the sharer were then worked out by multiplying 15x52 and then dividing by 12.

But it does really depend on what you are wanting to get from a sharer. Obviously if it is a financial thing, the above formula is probably useful, however if you are just after someone reliable to exercise your horse for you it may pay to be a little more flexible.

I think when we were sharing our horses out the sharer only had to pay for shoes every 6 weeks, but like i've said, it does depend on individual circumstances.

The sharer for our 16hh Shire x Dutch has her all to herself, as she is my hubbys horse but he can not ride now. She rides 2-5 times a week and we stilllookafter the horse as she has a job and a child so cant be there all the time. It works well for both of us. She pays £45 towards the rent a month and pays for the farrier. She is also expected to help out and have her own rider insurance. We dont have a contract.
Our 12.2 pony who is outgrown has a sharer as well, they have the same agreement exept they pay £35 per month because he is cheaper to keep. I expect her mother to keep an eye on her and not let her out on her own.
 
My sharer was paying £100 p/m 3days a week and my mare is currently stabled 24/7 due to lack of grazing. She was having regular lessons etc etc but now shes had to cut down to two days and isnt always able to ride so we've come to an arrangement of £50 a month until she's sold
