After yet another livery turning into a nightmare, they have given their notice over the weekend, so have the task of advertising again. I've always tried to have an 'open' yard policy as I only have a few stables spare and wanted to have a relaxed friendly yard after years of being on livery and it being a disaster. Unfortunately due to this livery (and the previous one) I now begrudgingly have to implement rules and draw up a contract so this is where I need your help. Are you able to send me copies of you livery agreements (and yard rules & regs) so that I can use these as a templete to draw up my own, suitable to my yard? I've searched high and low for mine that I've had over the years but they seem to, like a lot of other things, have gone missing when I relocated from Wales. If you could help I would be really grateful! Thanks! :D

If you are a member of the BHS you could contact their welfare department and ask them for a copy of the draught contract for Livery yards which is used by many of the BHS Approved Livery Yards. You must however get a specialist equine solicitor to check it out once you have ammended it to make sure that it would stand up in court should the situation ever arrive.

One thing that is essential these days is to ensure that each of the liveris can demonstrate that they have third party public liability insurance cover for no less than £10,00,000 (Ten Million Pounds) so that in the event of their horse causing an accident they have sufficient cover. (A recent court case demonstrated that horse owners are responsible for any accidents their horses cause and that this level of cover was essential). This level of cover is provided with BHS Gold membership.
