Am i the only one who is lucky enough to not have ANYTHING to moan about about their yard????

Im not having a go at those who do moan as i have in the past been on other yards and had sooo many problems its untrue, so i know where they are coming from.

I am on a yard that does DIY and livery but i choose DIY. I have my own fields ( too many actually and i dont use half of them ) for my own ponies only. I can use them as i wish all through winter 24/7 if i prefer. I have had to buy my own fencing ( no problem ) and maintian it myself. I have been allowed to erect my own field shelter for my ponies.

I have two decent sized indoor stables together and have been allowed to cut the doors in half and cut a hole in the wall between them so they can see each other. I have my own tackroom and can buy in what i want. I have storage for my hay/ shavings that isnt locked up and never get taken.

I have storage for my horsebox for a minimal fee. The only thing we havent got is a decent menage but i was allowed to build my own round pen so that sorted that one!

If for whatever reason i cant get down they will bring in/ turnout/feed etc for no extra cost. All for £30 a week for two!!!

Am i the only lucky ones???

So speak up those who love their yard and why do you love it???

Wow, that really brilliant.
I see your location is cloud cookoo land though????

Im at a nice yard too!!! Ok so we have no school andI dont have a great stable...but YO feeds my mare for me when he feeds his youngster, every day, for nothing...and we have 24/7 turnout all year round. For £15 a week

I love the yard I'm on - it's just me and YO and while we sometimes get irritated with each other
tongue.gif
we're good friends and get on well

OK I'd like more grazing but we manage fine with what we have and having moved from a large yard with loads of grazing to this my horses don't care and that's what matters

I love my yard...its on a working farm....we have all year TO, although only 24/7 in summer...bit of a mudfest in winter sometimes but at least horses not stuck in stables...

we have an arena, off road hacking - assisted DIY and holiday livery as and when we wish.

I can buy hay/straw off YO or buy my own in, no arguments.
No restrictions on instructors/farriers.
I have 3 stables in a row, internal ones with half walls so the horses can see each other and my own feedroom leading off this, and my very own tap...yeeha!

Loads of young people and children ( this may or may not be a good thing, dependant on your point of view!) and we all go to shows together and support each other...we hack out together and generally spend far too much time drinking tea and having a laugh.

Theres the occasional moan, but weve all been there a fair while so its a bit like extended family really....

I love my yard!!
I use to work there 7 yrs ago, so know most of the staff, and where everything is!
I am on Part livery, they do everything except muck out. Sukari is out in her own field until she settles, and even then she'll only go out with a few other LIVERY ONLY mares (no riding school horses allowed in the same field!)
there are 6 other liveries on my yard, who are all great fun!
We have 2 indoor schools and 2 outdoor schools, xc course, sj paddocks and loads of hacking! Plus get the added bonus of on site instructors & tack shop!!

the yard I was on before I moved my two to the house was the best - it was my instructors place and there was only 6 horses there, and we all got along and helped each other out. I was actually very sad to leave (and so was my instructor who is a very close friend) there wasn't a lot of grazing but we managed with what was available.

I do like my yard-
It has indoor school, 2 outdoor schools you can ride in, woods for hacking, shows all the times, staff on sight(it is a riding school) my horse can be turned out in the indoor school if she can't go in the field.
But bad points-
the fields are awful in the winter and really too many horses in them, you pay to ride inside apart from on weekends, it's quite expensive and there are always children running around screaming which is quite distracting while your trying to ride. Quite a few of the school ponies know how to take off headcollars then wander around the yard eating all the feed.
Luckily my horse loves kids whilst in her stable and they all stroke and feed her so she doesn't mind.

Very happy. Wonderful all year grazing in well maintained fields. Excellent size stable, reasonable hacking, near to where I live etc. And has all the facillities that I could want.

I have been at my yard for almost as long as I have had my horse. I left for 3 months and realised that it wasn't a good move and then was able to go back again.

Yes there are things that drive me insane, but I have kind of got used to that. I am lucky that I am able to keep out of most things

I love mine too - all year turnout, not told when my horse can go out or has to come in, not told what bedding I have to use, help there if needed, and no bitching!

I am at a lovely yard in Warwickshire where I keep my gelding on DIY. I do like the facilities and the other liveries. Most of the horses are well mannered and I used to enjoy working there at weekends before I hurt my back and couldn't manage it anymore. We are allowed to bring our own food/bedding if we want and I like this flexibility. We can also have our own instructor (I've been on other yards where you are not allowed to do this). We have a massive outdoor all weather menage with floodlights, trailer parking (we have to pay extra for this) and an indoor horsewalker. solarium and washbox. I like the fact that all the mucking out, tacking up and washing down can be done under one roof. I have a lovely big stable for my horse and he has a decent sized paddock which he has to himself. We have a set of good show jumps and a small indoor lunging school which we use for yard parties and barbeques! I do love the yard I am at but obviously you will always have issues no matter where you are and things won't always work out everytime. I do have the odd problem but on the whole it is a nice place. I pay £44 per week for DIY, trailer is £2.50 per week and haylage/hay is provided in that price. One turn out/bring in is free in the week and at weekends the cost each way is £2.00. The facilites more than make up for the cost in my opinion - I don't think you can compromise on mucking out in the dry and warm and having the room to have ten horses in the school all at the same time. The downside is that the hacking is terrible, but that said we are a ten minute drive away from a very large and well known riding club and have a great motorway network on our doorstep so there are lots of venues within easy reach.

I love all the facilities at my yard but not so happy about most of the people

I've only been there a little while but there seems to be a lot of jealousy, bitchiness and backstabbing - mainly focused towards the new people who have arrived (me being one)

I would move away but the horse is very settled and I have all of the facilities we could need, plus its very local

I love it on our yard. We are on full livery at a quiet event yard, theres 24/7 turnout, my horses are well cared for and the other liveries are great. We have a floodlit arena and the hacking is great and we all try and help each other out with transport to events, shows etc. We have the occasional moan and groan but thats life.

On our last yard, which was a BHS approved yard, they had over 40 acres of turnout, which our horses werent allowed to use as the YO said she needed to keep her fields good all year around. Your horse went in or out at the whim of the YO, which wasnt often. We were on full livery there and your horse ate what it was given. My irish cob was only allowed one flap of hay in the morning, the same in the evening and a little feed of some chaff and some crappy mix, they said he was too fat. He was hunting regularly and whenever i tried to sneak extra hay to him I was told off. Whenever you went into the tack room, if the YO was there with her crowd of cronies they went silent. Basically you did what you were told. Her daughter did some BSJA, she did ok, but if you went to a show and beat her you were in trouble. One of the staff regularly beat her out show jumping and was victimised until she left. You werent allowed to be better than her daughter. This woman could not even ride, and had only had horses for about 5 years before she bought this yard, she was also scared of them. One evening when my daughters old loan pony was unwell I called my instructor, as the only person who was around was the YOs husband. As it was he was ok, but this man heard my conversation and the following day I was told I should not ask for help outside of the yard and should speak to YO only. No, she aint a vet either.

I gave them a months notice and left nearly 2 years ago. My last memory of them is the YO screaming at me through my car window, after I had loaded up my horses, that I owed them money for livery and show entries for shows I didnt even go go. I left that yard in tears and ended up in my current one in tears. Owning horses is supposed to be fun, this was horrible. I have since heard that a couple of liveries left this yard as their horses were hit around the head for misbehaving, plus other really bad things. They are no longer BHS approved but continue to advertise as such. I wish I could name them, but they know who they are, as do all the other liveries who left around the same time as I did.

I'm very happy with mine

The farmer that owns the land is very flexible and if something needs doing he tries to do it as quick as he can.
Its a very basic DIY setup and not the prettiest but it suits me.
I have a 6 acre field atm but have approx 12 acres to the side which I can use if necessary and much more beyond that...too much really.

I adore my yard. I moved once and came back within 2 weeks. The decreasse in livery price jsut wasnt worth it.

I have everything I need:

Indoor and outdoor school - both floodlit,
Cross Country course
Riding field
Jumps
Excellent off and on road hacking
Brilliant routine,
daily turnout
and excellent standards of feed and bed.

Wont be moving unless I am kicked out

I love my yard too! I'm on DIY and have Henry and Gulliver living out 24/7 in a 20 acre field, all for them! I also have two large stables for them should they need to come in. I share a barn with another girl and we keep our feed bins, rugs, hay straw etc in there with no problems. There are only 3 other liveries on the yard and we all get on well. The YO and her hubby would do anything to help, feed, check horses etc if we can't ever get up there - for no extra charge. They also take hay down to the field for us in the winter so we're not luggin it around in our cars...

The YO's hubby also makes the best chips in the world and we have regular chip nights in their kitchen

The only thing we don't have is a school, but seeing as I'm a happy hacker and my instructor is a 30 min hack up the hill, it doesn't bother me!

I share with 2 others DIY on a working farm, we have our own fields, can basically do what we want, brilliant off road hacking, lovely farmer family who cant do enough to help, no all weather but we are building one ourselves, I wouldn't go back to a yard for all the tea in China !

I love my yard have only been on it for a few months but everyone is friendly and my pony can live out all year in a small friendly group of ponies and he is so happy.

Only problem is that he now developed an allergy to something unknow hopefully it is just seasonal (it is not dust as he lives out) and with treatment I will be able to manage it.

i have been on my yard for 3 years. I love it. We have a decent school with lights. My stables are in a big barn and really nice and cozy. Good storage, fab hacking on the owners estate plus a big forestry over the road. Winter grazing is a bit restricted but they all get a bit of turnout daily and we have big hard stands for the rest of the day. It suits me as 1 of mine can get terrible mud fever so all day in a muddy field isn't a great idea. We have a secure tack room and oh luxury...a toilet!
The best thing about it tho' is the people, it is friendly and not at all b1tchy, we all help each other out and look out for each others horses.

That is such a shame. I would take those people to task about what they are doing to make you so miserable. It is horrid when you think people are talking about you behind your back - its happened to me at previous yards. I wonder why they are so nasty. I love making friends with new people that arrive and I always say to them that if they have any questions at all about anything they can always come and find me as I have been there over 4 years now. I am always telling people at shows and things about how good our yard is too and have introduced five new people to the yard in the years I've been there. I have to say though, it is easy to be drawn into the gossipy scanario as everyone without exception likes a good gossip and they are lying if they say they don't but theres a world of difference between have a gossip and backstabbing and being down right vile to people. I nearly got kicked of the yard I'm at for telling a previous livery (who turned out to be a right trouble maker) something that had happened to my horse which I had at the time been very upset and angry about, and she relayed what I had said on a forum which was picked up by someone who rather sadly grassed on me to the livery yard owner. I had said what had happened just to relate a story, it wasn't done malicously but the yard owner didn't believe me. It was really sad and I doubted whether I wanted to stay after that. I still quake everytime she comes over as I think I will be kicked off and I make a point of not telling anyone I can't trust anything anymore.
