For those parents who complain about the costs of horses...

Any parent who claims that ponies keep their daughters away from boys and parties, or prevent them from getting fake tans and piercings is deluding themselves ;)

I agree with this! Yes experimented with hair and style etc as most teenage girls do and why not! You learn more about yourself, but alcohol and going out never interested me as I'd rather be able to hack or compete my pony on the weekend instead and this is mainly thanks to pony club. Yes I've had long term boyfriends and now at 21, at University still with my horse I brought when I was 15 and still own my first pony who is the same age as me, I look back and see ponies kept me focused, determined, made me patience and most of all appreciate animals. And now my current boyfriend is very interested in my horses and is learning to ride as he finds it as fun as I do.
Pony club and my pony brought me up and I am forever grateful :)

I'd disagree, worked with me. :) In terms of partying and boys, I had wholely uninteresting teenage years up until I turned 19 pretty much. Still no piercings [needle phobe!], no tattoos, though of course a few 'oopsies' mistakes. My whole life purpose far as I was aware was horse related. Even now, I'll go out some weekends, drink on rare occasions and still never been that bothered with dating. On the occasion that a nice one came along, then yes I gave it a go, but otherwise, horses were/are always first priority. :)

Down to the individual...but for me, I'd have to agree with it. :)

Think we are very similar! Would rather have an early night so I can spend the next day with my horses instead :)

I don't know, I based it off what I've seen of my sister and her friends who are trying to go pro- they all are pretty average teenagers, who go on nights out and have fun and be silly... The only difference being they plan it harder so they won't clash with comps :D Al will go out, but be up at 7 the next morning mucking 6 out. I'm always dead impressed, lol.

It semi worked for me.

When under 18, I went to plenty of parties, but my mum always picked me up at 7.30am to do the horses, and when i turned 18, same story, i went out but got up to do the horses.

Now I pay for my own horses I don't go out much lol!

Don't care much about my appearance, never dabbled with real drugs, had a couple of bfs but only long term ones who knew from the start the horses come first :D

Having had two teenage girls, the investment of a decent horse is well worth it at 14, and keep the the busy at shows , PC hacking etc. I even once explained with my daughter that the reason the currant boy could not take her to a town 30 miles as, 'you wouldn't let anyone take your horse out'.
You still have the problems of too much make -up(never heard of less is more just how much can I towel on), too much lip and getting them up in the morning but it gives them direction and keeps them away from the really bad things.
