What do you sing?
Walder has confessed to walking in a winter wonderland. Hacking I tend to go for daydream believer and Bruce Springsteen's born to run when I'm doing a scary jump. One of my friends sings Jerusalem (she's a bit more upmarket than me!).
Anyone else want to confess ....

Well, I do 'I'm a Little Teapot' for trotting because it makes me laugh, although sometimes I alternate it with 'Nellie the Elephant'.

My latest band fad is Gogol Bordello ( you'll have to google them) and I like cantering to 'Wear Something Purple'.

Sorry, weirdo, me.

It's not as daft as it sounds! Singing helps you to keep a rhythm, and also encourages you to breathe in times of stress! The Grand Old Duke of York works fine for me!

When I want her to go faster I sing "Rawhide" (but only when I'm on my own). To get her into a good rhythm I sometimes sing "Little Drummer Boy". I feel daft admitting to it too because no-one has ever been told this information before!

I used to sing 'Hey Mickey' when I was hacking out, to calm him and more to the point, me!

I found he had a distinct aversion to the scissor sisters though! (much like his owner)

"My four legged friend, my four legged friend, he'll never let you down......"
Years ago, when I kept horses in deepest darkest Brixton, my mare had a habit of grunting when trotting up hills, my oh's horse had an oinky willy. The noise the pair of them made was the perfect back beat to "two little boys" which we would sing at the top of our voices, much to the amusement of the local rastas!

I sing ALL THE TIME when I'm riding. My boss thinks I'm nuts.
Currently I'm mostly singing the score to Thoroughly Modern Millie cos I just finished doing a run of the show (play violin in spare time) and it is stuck in my head constantly. I especially like "What do I need with love" as it starts with the words "NO NO NO NO"... and then goes into the tune so it is perfect for when the little sods try to p**s off with you LOL

Staple favourites are 'British Grenadiers' for trot work and Nellie the Elephant for canter though.

Our particular favourite is an old ditty entitled "The Old Bay Mare". This works anywhere as it is her song

Hacking its often the uplifting "Oh Lord Won't You buy Me a Mercades Benz". I find that with my voice its particular good at clearing the field of pheasents. A friend once pointed out to me that I had not only got all the pheasents in the field we were in to fly up, but in the next field too - the sky was full

I also like a rendition of 'Summertime' al la Billie holiday!

If you're ever at an XC course and hear a not very tuneful burst of The Wombling Song from a rider going past like a bat out of hell that'll be my daughter!

trotting, run rabbit run rabbit. gets you into the right rhythm

when she's trying to bomb off and I'm forgetting to breathe "Abba Father" or "Shine Jesus Shine". Neither my favourite songs but the words have clearly been so deeply ingrained on me that I can sing the words even when D is trying to buck me off. I've found that if I'm singing to calm us both down it needs to be something that I really know the words to

Since I ride western, I sing cowboy songs. Get Along Little Dogies, Streets of Laredo, etc. I'm also partial to English, Irish and Scots folk tunes. My favorite time of year to ride is autumn which coincides with deer season in my part of the country. I sing when I ride so horse and I won't be mistaken for deer. I also wear a lot of orange this time of year.

I'm amazed - I posted this just before I went to a late meeting thinking no-one would reply. Didn't realise there were so many of us mad people out there. Some really cool songs too!
