For those that put ice bags on legs after X/C

You definitely need something between the ice and the legs - jcloths dunked in a bucket of water work well - otherwise you can cause ice burns.

Great thanks this is what I thought..... Just wasn't sure how thin/thick the cloth should be..... Have j-cloths and tea towels and ice is already in freezer...... Thanks!

We but tubigrips on, folded in half then slot the ice in between the 2 layers. Works perfectly.

Does rely on your horse being fairly placid post-XC though- Reg is happy to stand and doze whilst the tubigrips are being pulled on, but some horses aren't quite as dopey as him! (typical ex-racer...)

If anyone could take/post pictures of them doing this I would be very interested. I am thinking about making some sort of boot on a small scale in the near future that could hold the ice cube bags. How are you all keeping the ice frozen at events?

flexible ice packs bought off Amazon - really cheap. stick them in cool bag with all my drinks when I leave the house, still nicely cold when I get there. I mould them into the inside of some old sports medicine boots and apply over a j-cloth. Cheap ice boots!

Best photos I have of the tubigrip set up...

Sports boots with pouches stitched inside to put the ice in

Sports boots themselves are quite expensive. I am thinking to make some cheap in the range of £15 for set of 4. Ice shouldn't be a luxury, which at the current prices it is!
