I know some of you were interested in knowing the cushings test results for my mare who I posted about. Anyhoo they're back and no she doesn't have cushings her level was 18.2 :). She wasn't tested for EMS but due to her fatty deposits etc the vet thinks she has it mildly, so will be kept/managed accordingly. If anyone here has a horse with it would love to see how they look and what you feed/routine/exercise you do with them etc. Also I'm desperate for ideas to keep her entertained whilst shes in, we're only 1 week in out of 3 and it's horrid to see her so stressed/annoyed :(

I used to have a little NF pony with EMS. The vet suggested I feed her Healthy hooves and exercise her as much as possible. She was kept in a relatively bare paddock and given soaked hay. She suffered lami quite badly at the sniff of any grass.

I am on my work computer so no pictures, then I remembered she was used as a case study on the Dengie website as her before and after were so dramatic.

She is now back in full work with a lovely family and is fit and well and on no medication x

Hifi mollasses free is good to feed so is magnesium oxide it helps break down the fatty deposits once they have gone they can come of it, it really helped my mare I just put her on it if she is starting to look cresty again, I cant post pictures sorry am hopeless, it is managable I just feed mine like a laminitic and watch the grass intake.

good news on the cushings front :) I had my 20 yo tested last year on the basis that he didn't really loose any top line when out of work and was certainly keeping his neck. He was negative for cushings. Didn't test for EMS but essentially treat him like an EMS horse or though feet wise he does seem to be quite grass tolerant and hasn't ever had lami as yet. (Current regimes is out on a perimeter track 24/7 with sparse grazing with extra grass or hay fed twice a day, fed fastfibre, linseed+ foot supps and sufficient exercise :) )

I have an ems horse.
He is fed hifi molasses free, fast fibre, pro balance plus for hooves and vit and min supplement and he is also on metformin.
In the summer he has soaked hay and reduced grass, winter he is off grass when its frosty and snowy hit has dry hay has I dont want to cause colic be feeding cold soaked hay in winter.

I also try to exercise him twice a day if I can but its mainly six days a week.
