Does your saddle slip forwards? I have the wintec wide with the correct gullet fitted but when I school or do a bit of jumping I am finding the saddle slips forwards, almost onto my pony's neck. This doesn't happen when I walk or trot out on a hack but just when I do circles in the school. Any suggestions, apart from using a crupper?

Sadly I have found that a lot of these synthetics actually dont fit the cobby shaped horses at all well no matter which gullet you use. You may need to look at a different make and one with point or balance straps on.

I agree with scotsmare, non slip pads are great! I have recently inherited a (almost new) non slip numnah and its brill!! Its got the non slip pads for under the saddle and under the numnah on the back. Its brilliant, I love it more than I love chocolate, a God send

Hi, I had the exact same problem as you on my cob x arab. The only thing that worked for me was a Stubben Trevira Cord Girth. Since using one my saddle has not slipped at all. they are a bit pricier than a normal girth but I cnat recommend these girths enough!

My leather saddle used to slip sideways but I've changes from a leather girth to a fabric one and now it does not

Oh yes, I remember someone recommending the stubben girth before, I'll look in to those too.

buy your horse a saddle that actually fits....as it's current one doesnt.

I had the same the wintecs ruined my horses back after a lot of physio and McTimoney I had a very good fitter come out and she fitted mine with the new FWB (for wider breeds) ideal ive had no more problems and no slipping also the none slip pads are bad you shouldn't need them if your saddle is right, good luck.

I have a Sec D x with no withers and a flat, wide back. I was advised by more than one saddle fitter that most synthetic saddles will not fit my type of horse properly, in all the places they're supposed to.

I have an Ideal H&C which never moves, even when she's all fat and barrelly!

I used a synthetic cob saddle and when the saddle fitter came out she bought me an ideal H+C saddle and the change in my cob was instant!!

whilst i agree with comments like this its not always fair - my mare is croup high, chunky shouldered, no wither, fairly short backed, goes on the forehand (doesnt help with forward slipping!) and i am a small adult so saddle fitting has been a bit of a nightmare. my saddle is currently slipping forward slightly and it isnt because it doesnt fit - but because it DOES. when it didnt slip forward it was pushing down behind her shoulder and having a wedging effect but the saddle fits her well in every other way its just her bloody awkward shape!!

to the original poster. i used to ride my pony in a wintec wide - with a limpet and stubben girth, til i got my saddle company saddle. if you havent tried a stubbern trevira girth then i can recommend them - as do the 2 saddlers i have used in the last 12months, both have said they are the kindest girths to use on a horse. however if you havent had your saddle checked in the last 6 months then i would do, mine started slipping forward as it had dropped a little infront due to ponies change in shape.

my last resort is a crupper, saddler did suggest it and my mortified said it all. i cant imagine the feel and potential damage they could do to a horses back? not relaly up on cruppers to be honest but they seem awful. plus i already look like a pony clubber as it is !!
