The advert is all ready to go in tonight to various tack shops and feed stores, so now down to the important stuff, the loan contracts.
I am happy to carry on paying her insurance, everything else will be taken on by the loaner.
I was going to use the agreement found in the British horse society website.

i have never loaned a horse out before, any tips?
Most likely she will be staying in the area so i would like her to keep my farrier and vet......also i would want to check her every so often, obviously i wouldn't just turn up or be interfering i would just want to see how she is settling in etc.....
Also i little things like wearing her boots out hacking and for jumping, regular worming etc.....

When I loaned my mare out I used the BHS contract and just changed some bits/ added some parts in to suit the agreement I wanted. She was going out as a broodmare so stated i didnt want her riding etc. You can add in the contract that you want her to wear boots, state farrier must be out every 6 weeks , and wormed (can input whichever worming program you want her on). It worked well for me and I stated in the contract that I would come and visit every 4 weeks. Also said that if I felt that she wasnt being cared for properly I could remove the mare at any time and if the loaner wanted to return the mare I stated this could be done with no notice so I knew if loaner hit any problems that Jade wouldnt suffer. I have stables at home so was luckily in the position to be able to just go and get her without notice.
Hope this helps, sorry for the ramble!! :)

I have loaned out 2 horses before. The first horse went to an approved yard about 30 minutes from me and I took her back in 6 weeks as I was horrified at the state of her. She was absolutely filthy as was her tack. She had numnah rubs on her back and had kick and bite marks on her. I used the BHS contract.

However I have just put another one out locally on loan (BHS contract) and I got refs from her vet and her instructor and so far so good. The loan is renewed every 2 months. She has to insure him as well as the tack and is fully responsible for him.

I had a friend who got a 5 stage vetting on her horse before she put him out on loan just incase he came back with any problems. I'm thinking of putting another horse out on loan, but he will have to stay at my yard. Good luck!

I did the same as last poster, bhs contract and put my own clauses in it, make sure its witnessed and signed properly. Get as many refs as you can, if they are genuine they wont mind you asking. See something with their name and address on just help confirming who they are if you have any doubts. Remember it is still your horse and you have a right to visit when you like, obviously at a mutual time, but if you have any concerns you can just go and do a spot check! My loaner pays insurance which is part of the contract. Worth speaking to them about what would happen if the horse had an injury and couldnt be ridden anymore, would they keep it, would it come back to you?

yes, use BHS contract and amend away to your heart's content... i put things like tack can't be changed without permission, and that i was to be told the minute he did anything naughty/out of character so it could be nipped in the bud before it escalated... etc.
