Hello chickens,

Next year I want to take ben away for a week on dartmoor for our holidays, It has been ages since Ive been on dartmoor and Ive always dreamed of doing a 'bring your own nag' holiday. I just want a really homely cottagy/farmy type place, somewhere right on dartmoor, am happy to do self catering holiday but any reccomendations of good places that I would be able to take ben would be very much appreciated :D

Thank you :D

Try PM'ing "Bosworth" on here (dunno where she is these days???? - hopefully still around).

Can't suggest anywhere; bought my traddie boy from a trekking centre near Okehampton, which is sadly now closed I understand :( A great pity as it had been going for years.

Hopefully someone else on here will be able to suggest somewhere!

I second Cheston. A friend of mine liveries there. The house has just been renovated and is absolutely beautiful. Your just a few minutes from the moor and its lovely lane hacking around there.

Thank you :D I am just looking at their website at the moment although my computer is on a bit of a go slow! Im undecided as to whether to go alone or see if a friend wants to come with me at the moment but I am determined to do dartmoor.... I spent so many years up there camping and exploring... but never on the back of a horse... ben loves exploring new rides.. he would absolutely love it!

I've met the couple who run Lowertown a few times, young, friendly farming family, and they try very hard... they have a FB page and Tweet too, worth following them.

Oh I didnt notice they have their own FB page... will definately follow them and message them. Whilst I think ben would be ok at cheston, and there is the added variety of their facilities etc, I am not sure that I want to pay full livery prices which they insist on for the bring a horse package, I like doing my own bed etc and cheston provide feed too... not into that, I would want to provide his feed so no change to routine... will look into both, but I think Lowertown seems the more sedate and 'holiday' type for me... much more what Im looking for although they both look great.

I looked at Lowerton when i moved to Devon last summer. Lovely but I ended up living the other side of Exeter. The owners were great and i thought their prices were reasonable

I was going to recommend Lowertown b&b!
I know the owners and they are a lovely couple, very helpful and the riding round there is first class, Hannah owns horses so can tell you where the best riding routes are!
I used to live near there so if you want any more help feel free to pm me.

Thank you guys... I think that I will look at booking lowertown... it does look lovely. I doubt I will get round to actually book it until early next year but you never know!
