Today I went to visit Gulliver. For those who have not been bored by me on the subject in the past he is 16.1 CB cross and is 19.

After a marathon of lameness and interesting changes of diagnoses and treatment he was retired in March 2008.
In May 2008 throu ths forum I found him a home to live out 24/7 as a Companion.

I have visited him from time to time but not been there for ages. My friend has given me a New Zealand rug from her horse she had PTS and I took it up to him.

Well what should I expect I have been to visit for months and I find............

There he is out in an 18 acre field with his Field Pal. He looked in stonkingly good form if it wasnt for his hair coat you could take him in a show ring. No burrs in his mane and his tail brushed out (No they didnt know I was coming).

His unshod feet looked well trimmed no lumps bumps blemishes it was great we brought him in with his big Friend Henry and popped him in a stable while we talked and yes I will admit it I gave him a big hug he is so cuddly that he looks like his nickname Gully Bear.

No piccies as I forgot my camera but gosh I am sooo lucky with where he lives.

That's great. My guess is that you checked the new home out very well before you let him go there and that you have kept in close touch especially at first. I know some people are extremely unlucky but I do think that a few haven't been particularly careful about where/who they sent their horse to.

He went to a HHOer and yes she visited me at my yard and met him and I visited her at her yard and looked around panicking that I would forget to ask the right questions.

Only upsetting bit being selfish is he now likes her best!

That's great, I may be faced with the same thing with my 13yr old so it's nice to know it can work. Not nice in one sense that he likes his mew mum best, but shows that he's in a great home and is very happy so it is nice in another!
