For those who use VIP pads

For those of you who used the VIP pads when you ride where do you place the pad? 1.
Under the saddle pad directly on the horses back or
2. between the saddle and saddle pad

after a discussion with my OH who seems to think it works better as Option 2, But does it actually make any difference where it is placed?

Try both ways??!! I put mine between numnah and saddle.

It can be used either way, I do between saddle and pad

But my horse is picky and likes sheepskin near his skin which is what made the decision for me

I would never recommend regular use of anything remotely sticky/grippy/sweaty against the skin, always between saddle and pad except in emergencies.

I put it directly on back, under saddle pad schooling for short period, upto 40 minutes, I feel he seems to go better that way. On longer ride and where it would be more difficult to do a tack adjustment if he had slipped (although it never had) between pad and saddle.

I would say that I don't find these pads grippy like other gel pads. In that respect I wouldn't have those concerns using it directly on the horse

Thanks for the replies! I always thought would it be more effective straight on the back but good point that will also depend on an individual horse!
