Dizzy was freeze marked today with the LoU.

She's fine. I'm numb. I know I still have her, etc., which I am more than grateful for, but it is the end of a long passage of trying to achieve a dream.

For those who wanted to know:
I had to provide a report from my vet re. Dizz's medical issues, which I did in November last year;
The insurance vet spoke to the report writing vet. From that the decision was made;
Today, Dizzy was freeze marked with an 'L' in a circle, on her back (saddle area). I'll get a cheque in the next few weeks.

My lovely vet made it :), partially to give Dizz the sedation she would need, and partially to be with me. We've walked a pretty agonizing path over the last three years, with one thing and another, so it seemed right and fitting and I appreciate it more than words can say.

Thank you also to my family and friends who have put up with me/propped me up/mopped up my tears and generally been there for me and for the Dizzy one.

So, now it's wait and see :). Next week I can hopefully put a saddle on and we'll start the job of getting us both fit and well and see where life takes us. A new journey.

Oh gosh Mrs M - what a difficult day for you.

Just looking at the positive side, she can start having some fun again with you next week, you are well enough to be back on board her - thats got to be good.

I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason - an exciting journey for you together now, even if it wasnt quite the path you had anticipated.

Hope to hear some very happy stories from you soon ... your adventures with the Dizzy One. :D xx

I haven't followed the entire story but there is definately life after a horse has the LOU stamp. Mine was stamped when she was 6 years old, I still have 9 years on and guess what, she hasn't been lame since. I even did some low level dressage, SJ and showing with her.

Like others have said be happy that you can still ride her and you never know what the future holds.

I've been out of the UK for a while now so please excuse my silly q's but is LOU like an insurance write off? But Dizz is still OK to be ridden? I is confuddled (not hard to achieve, I know!)

Either way sounds like another tough day for you :(

Ta folks.

Can't jump her again. If she breaks that will be it, will lose her.

Still. I feel better than I thought I would. Fingers crossed the appointment with the Consultant goes well tomorrow and then we'll be off and running :D :D

Yes, Loss of Use, an insurance write off. I can ride her, but we're currently down to hacking. Not sure what the future holds.

A friend on another forum made this for me and the Dizz :D

I feel I should offer some hope although I don't really like to tempt fate but here goes...

I am currently awaiting a loss of use payout (read arguing with insurance about horses value) but the day I get my horse branded is not far in the future.

My girl a write off with Sue Dyson spent pretty much a year in the field with me agonising over her every step, I was told she had no future and even said to Newmarket don't make me take her home, put her down there but which couldn't happen because of the insurance.

I am now in the middle of a very long journey but one at last I feel is going in the right direction, she has been back in work since september all walking at first but we are now back schooling and are going to compete in our first dressage since everything happened test on Sunday. I like to think its time patience and so much willing on my behalf that has got us to where we are now. I think she has similar issues to your mare too, so whilst every horse is different I hope your journey takes the same route as mine

Aw hunny, hugs and more power to you :):):)

I won't go into detail re. the various vets comments over the last two years, but they were, well, they're in the past now.

Dizz is sound, or as sound as she will be, her hind leg action is a bit off, but she's not lame if that makes sense (that's the opinion of three vets including Sue Dyson), so, we will do what we can do :). Maybe a bit of dressage, just to have something to look forward to for me and something different for her. If the ground is good I'll take her cross-country schooling with friends, as in we'll canter round and have a giggle, just not do the jumps.

I love this horse and am very pleased that I still have her in my life :D. When I'm fit again, etc., I'll get another horse to go play BS with :D

I hope you and your horse have a grand time hunny. Looking forward to your Sunday report :D
