For those with a horse that's had laminitis ...

What were the first things you noticed that made you realise someone wasn't right? I just want to be looking out for the little things and not just the more obvious.

He has had a ACTH level of 80 so am considering a pracend trial.

Mine is always good at picking his feet up for you both he stopped doing that and I had to insist. I missed that at the start but I won't again.

I think the key is to start before you notice anything. Don't wait until the horse has laminitis. Do everything you can to prevent it, weight management, feeding etc.

Ours was stabled during the day with soaked hay mixed with straw, got a handful of plain chopped, dried grass with balancer etc in and got out at night with a very fine holed muzzle on.

We knew she was prone and had cushings that she was medicated for.

Mine was reluctant to canter on tracks where she used to fly along ,unfortunately I only realised the significance of this too late.

Uncomfortable when walking over stony ground. Trying to walk on grass when out hacking. Less keen to go forward.
