Im hoping to take my Highland gelding to a couple of little local shows next year (thats if they dont all get cancelled again because of the rain again), & was wondering what type of bridles your Highlands wear, ive got 2 which i can use on him but cant decide which would be best, they are only snaffle bridles, im sure someone will say a double is correct, but as we are only dabbling i dont really want the expense of buying one (& ive never ridden with one either).

Now ive got one bridle that was actually bought by a friend for her Highland which she did show, its a very fine bridle & i do like it, but a couple of people have said it not chunky enough for him & when i bought it i had it for my Arab gelding, who ive since retired. This is the bridle in question on my Arab.

And this is my other bridle ive just bought.

Also what bit do you find yours go better in, at the moment he is in a myler comfort snaffle, which he seems happy with, but i find in canter he tends to lean on my hands (if thats the right terminology for it?), which i find a bit disconcerting at times.

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

No advice on bit but I'm pretty sure the second bridle with a flat nose band would be correct for a highland and also that style bridle would flatter a highlands head shape more

Definitely the latter is more correct for a highland. I use one I put together for my cob for showing, or this cheap one:

the cob's has a wider noseband but is otherwise similar in style

I use a very narrow french link on F as there's not a lot of room in his mouth. He likes it and it suits him.

Mine is in a hanging myler snaffle. I have a simple bridle with a wide noseband. Occasionally I use a Mylar Pelham so it looks like a double, however for local showing I don't think it's required. It's how your pony goes that counts

Oh I forgot this was showing, I have a french link pelham I use in the show ring sometimes, not that I often grace the show ring with our presence, tbh...

Thanks, i had a feeling you would all go with the 2nd bridle :) im glad i bought it now, i only picked up because it was on sale & couldnt resist a bargain!

I really love your Highland as well JustFindingTheDecorations, really nice chap :)
