I am just curious

How do those of you with LGVs over 7.5 tonnes cope with the EU weekly rest rules?

What do you record the work done during an EU regs week on? -analogue cards?

Hi ROG

I work full time Mon - Fri so technically can only drive every other weekend unless I take time off during the week if I need to drive on consecutive weekends, which as you can imagine is a pain as it eats into my Holidays

I have been escorted off the M6 on a Sunday evening coming back from Eland Lodge on a spot check exercise and as a result, had to e-mail my hours of work for the last three weeks, to the lady who stopped me at VOSA and she was happy with that

I share with my sister, so if I'm out of hours she drives, but I do have to work my events around a fortnightly basis and as we compete at different levels, this sometimes doesn't always work out!

I know people are trying to make exemptions and fingers crossed it happens, but we had to go down the HGV route due to weight issues as other threads have highlighted, as we normally have 3 on the wagon on most trips so you're damned either way really :mad:

Hope that helps

You were lucky !!

Most VOSA officials would have insisted on those records being recorded as per the regs so either on a seperate analogue card for each day, a digi printout for each day or inputted into a digi.

The oddity is that if no EU regs driving was done in any week between sunday midnight to sunday midnight then no records are required so a driver who does every other weekend will only need to have alternate weekly records

Like you and probably many others I hope that when they eventually review these regs they allow individual countries the option to increase the 7.5 tonne limit for private LGV driving

I realise I was lucky, the lady did tell me it was more an educational exercise and they were pulling in ALL HGV's not just horseboxes, but it's still one of the most scariest moments in my life watching the car come in front of me and the lights flash up `follow me'

I am curious though as I work in an office, normally on 9 till 5 hours, have no access to digi technology for a tacho as ours is an old wagon and has the paper disc type, so how can they ask for that? I have my diary in my handbag and a diary at work, so it's all taken from there, she did seem quite happy with that

No problem with using an analogue truck - there is no requirement to have a digi fitted to it

Just use 5 seperate cards to record each of the mon to fri days on with your name, date, start & finish time on each - but only for any week (sunday midnight too sunday midnight) where you do any EU regs driving

The same rules apply to self employed if they are driving under EU regs - there are no exemptions for that

The driver under EU regs must record all work as I have previously specified and any records recorded when using the LGV go back to the vehicle OPERATOR between 28 and 42 calender days

Records of the other days in which the vehicle was not used but you recorded to show what other work was done in that week can be binned after 28 days

Right so if we had a hgv I would need to show a chart even for weekdays when its unused and not just weekends???

EU driver records for the VEHICLE are only required for days in which it is used under those regs however, if it is also used for private driving (under 7.5 tonnes) then I would also keep records for those days marked private or if on digi choose the out-of-scope option

Where the driver is concerned, the authorities need to know when the driver has done any work in a WEEK when that driver has come under EU regs so they know that weekly rest has been taken
