I've paid Forage Plus for analysis of my hay and fresh grass. Problem I am having is with the fresh grass collection. There simply isn't enough grass in my horses' field to collect the amount needed. My horses are in a sectioned off bit of the field and I was wondering if I could take samples of the grass just outside of their paddock? It's part of the same field but is in the walkway part so not ever grazed by the horses. Once a year the farmer lets his bullocks graze this area down for a month, but aside from that it's just left. Can I use this ungrazed grass for my analysis or will it differ greatly from that which is grazed by my horses just over the fence line? Or should I wait and sample from the actual paddock? It could be weeks or even months before there's enough grass length to get the samples I need though.
