Hi,

Does anybody know how much grass in weight a 15hh horse would consume per hour?

I'm trying to work out the correct weight of forage for my horse when I give her haynet at night. She's out from 7am until 3.30pm.

Thanks

Horses should get about 2% of their bodyweight in forage in any 24 hours... given that grass is generally pretty poor at this time of year I wouldn't even add it into the equation ... just weigh your hay accordingly. so if she is 500kg she'd need 10kg hay while she's in... but i'd give some of that at 3.30 and then the rest later in the evening if possible... It all depends on the horse... if she's not a particularly good doer I'd feed her as much as she can eat - about half a bale ish...
