I read some stuff recently on how several people used their Ford Galaxy for towing a lightweight trailer.
I'm in the process of trying to buy a cheap older automatic Galaxy as it has the perfect space needed for all of my dog showing stuff etc and it would be awesome if it could tow as well.
I'd only ever be towing one average sized horse in a lightweight trailer to and from local fun rides, lessons etc, mainly on roads not fields.
Is this actually feasible?

I never towed a trailer with it but when I had one we were due to get a caravan and I remember mine had a tow capacity of 2000kg, which is not bad. I have never seen one towing a horse trailer though

I got rid of it (actually it got rid of me, the engine failed expensively) before I got the trailer so never did try.

Lovely car to drive though so if it works trailer wise, could be a good move.

There's a huge range of towing capacities for different models of Galaxy - depending on engine size, transmission, age etc. I'd double check the model you're buying on the list below to work out where you stand. For towing capacity, actual weight counts rather than maximums so as long as the unladen weight of the trailer + the weight of the horse doesn't exceed the car's towing capacity you should be ok. I'm assuming you have the B+E licence (i.e you passed your test before 1997 or have done the test?)

We have a manual diesel Galaxy, which I tow a Rice Europa with. My husband has just towed his glider to Yorkshire and back, no problems.
The hardest bit is finding one that has not had a hard life, I trawled e-bay for weeks, and managed to get one that had been owned by a family for 10 years. They are very useful, great for moving furniture as well as people.

Thank for the replies.
I mainly want one because I have 5 dogs, 3 American Cockers, a Japanese Chin and a 21 week old Great Dane. I show dogs (American Cockers) and I have a pile of stuff to trek about so most 4x4 types don't really fit the bill.
I will have to have a really good look about...never really thought of eBay!!
If anyone has any other similar vehicle suggestions I'd be grateful :)
