After competing in a range of disciplines over the years with my 12 year old, 14.1hh Connemara gelding, I have decided to concentrate on our affiliated dressage career. Our first aim is to qualify for Area Festivals in the Prelim and today we started on our journey into the world of BD.
First class was P15. This test rode well although Jack lacked suppleness through his back and came out of the contact a few times, especially during transitions. Expected low 60s and was very happy with 64.13% and some lovely comments including 'promising work shown from a beautifully turned out combination'. We finished 5th out of 7.
Second class was P19. We had approx. an hour between tests which is awkward as it's not long enough to fully rest in between without Jack switching off completely nor is it short enough to keep him active. Warmed up with a little encouragement from the whip to get him listening and off we went. I felt like I was nagging him more during this test but his transitions were obedient and accurate and he stretched down nicely in the free walk (something we struggle to achieve on a surface normally). Expected a similar mark to the first test and was very pleased with 68.18% and 4th out of 10. More lovely comments from the judge too - 'some super moments & some v. correct aspects'. We also managed to score our first 9 for our free walk!
Overall, a great debut for us at BD. We are off again next Saturday so hopefully we will continue on form
