Forget Appassionata, for sheer spectacle, if you ever...

get the chance to go to see Cavalia Odysseo GO!

I rarely rave about any 'circus' type show, but last night in Toronto, for once, I didn't feel like falling asleep - and I've seen loads of them. Staged in the worlds largest big top (over 2 miles of canvas) with absolutely spectacular scenery, gorgeus costumes (think Elves in LOTR type thing) a huge arena (on a slope! - sounds weird, but it works) and live musicians and singer it is brilliant.

At one point they had 30 horses at liberty in the arena...technically it is quite basic, no airs above the ground etc (unless a horse choose to) but it didn't need it.

For once - it was a lot of money well spent.

Sounds amazing! I havent seen Appassionata (was too late in booking my tickets ) but I've ridden a few of the shows horses and they were totally magnificant to ride!

Actually my title was misleading.

I wasn't knocking Appassionata intentionally, merely using it as an example, I've seen it - thought it was a bit 'samey' (my opinion only, but anything 'dressagey' tends to get my eyelids drooping, I am a philistine, I admit it :o) but I'm not taking anything away from the performers and their level of skill, which, needless to say, far outweighs anything I could do.

It is just that Cavalia is different, much more theatrical than anything I have ever seen, and obviously on a larger scale (and budget - seen the ticket prices?) than other shows.

This one is a spectacle in the true sense of the word, pure theatre.
