The screaming is foxes looking for a mate, ut can go on for weeks and weeks, outside you bedroom window at night keeping you all awake. It sounds terrible but nothing is coming to any harm. Some scream when they are mating too.
Not sure where you are but we don't get wild grey fox in the UK neddy man.
It appears I am wrong, but I had read red fox always had a white tip on its tail and greys don't I wasn't aware there were no grey foxes in UK.Twice this month while out riding we have seen dark red foxes with no white tip on its tail ( maybe same fox twice) a month never goes by that I don't see a fox either rural or edge of the city. As in my avatar I'm in South Yorkshire 12 miles North of Sheffield. Thank you for the correction.

So an update on poor deceased foxy.

I spoke to the landowner who has the majority of the surrounding farmland and property, and to the sheep farmer on the other side of us. Apparently it is very, very unlikely that it would have been poisoned - they all keep organic land and are very into rewilding and wildlife preservation. If there was a fox issue they would not be poisoning.

He thinks it may have been hit by a car or had some kind of trauma - can’t rule out my little four-legged friends playing fox football ?

And he has kindly “disappeared” it for me.
