Found somewhere to move Wooley. Its got a non grassy area for him and a field with old non fertilised grass. Perhaps this will keep his lami attacks to a minimum. Hope to move in a month, as he is currently on box rest with it. It was a very very difficult decision. My best friend runs the current yard and I know she will never speak to me again. I was left with no choice as she would not provide me with the right environment for him. Its a dreadful atmosphere for me there now. Was I right to move?

yes

pony welfare vs friend's feelings - no contest!

Yes you were right - if it was my best friend I would try my hardest to help her and her horse. So I wouldnt worry about moving, your doing the right thing

croycob ... I am so pleased you have found suitable turnout for your chap

I know what a problem it is and that we need and must do the best for them, even if we feel that we are depriving them of something! (bl&&dy grass is a nuisance

EDT ... and yes I believe you were right to move, as he horse's welfare must come first

You were totally right Croycob. I'm sooooo lucky at my yard as not only is YO hugely experienced and colic/lami aware but she responds immediately if there's a problem. She keeps a permanent, unfertilised "fat paddock" - thank god! Coz my ned is headed there this weekend after a nasty brush with a gassy colic attack brought on by too lush grazing. I swear she would have really at-risk horses in her living room if there was no other option! Your new yard sounds really horse friendly - good luck there and let us know how it's going x

I too had to move yards because the owners were not prepared to cater for my laminitic.

As has been said by someone else - not much of a friend if she couldn't help you out - this condition is pretty much a constant worry whatever time of the year it is, so she must understand how concerned you are.

Good luck on the new yard.

Moving on Wednesday, vet said it was ok. Cant wait. Its a lovely place, only its 13 miles away, but everything else looks brilliant! No traffic though to drive through in my 13 mile trek!

croycob, my lovely yard is 16 miles, half hr drive but HTG it's worth it for happy horses and happy owners! Like you, I also moved - from a much bigger place that should have known better but had practices that were seriously anti horse-welfare. So happy now!
