I have found perfect happy hacking home an hour away from us for sons mare/ Polocrosse horse. She needs quieter home and he needs a new younger PX horse, so why do I feel like a mean mum, she will have home for life there acres of fields, hacking and another horse to live with, the lady she is going to wanted her two yr ago but she was still playing PX well, now she slowed down and struggles so this is best for her.
We sorted it all out today, started new horse hunting, but I feel terrible that his school mistress who has taught him all he knows is going....teenager son is ok about it, looking forward to new season with new horse, I am so sad...
Yard owner is helping us horse hunt, and is keeping stable for us till we find one..
It's best for her I know... It just hurts that she won't be there anymore..

sounds like the new home is going to be good for her, can you visit so you still see her sometimes, so it makes it easier for you to let go....

Just think of it as you are doing the best thing for the horse and for you and your son.

Horse wants a quieter life and son wants to continue so this arrangement lets them eacxh have what they want.

Dont feel bad, feel happy you were able to find her a nice home so easily.

keep in touch and you will see for yourself how happy horse is in new home.

I know it's best for penny, she is a sweet mare and new owner is going to love her and she will spend her twilight years hacking across Denbigh moors and lanes with a hairy cob for company... It's just a wrench.
We are able to visit, may go few times then once son bonds with new one leave it at that..
New owner wanted her few years ago but my son wasn't ready to move on.. He is now..
I just think of all the people she has taught to ride in her years with us... She is an amazing mare.
