A coloured colt was found in the hedge, beside a very quiet road, this morning. A passerby thought it was one of my horses and managed to get it into my field. Unfortunately it is entire and I have mares (need I say more). He has now been moved to a temporary safe place but we would like to trace the owners. We understand from neighbours that a large vehicle was heard in the middle of the night, so the horse may have been dumped.

Police, and my local BHS Welfare/Horsewatch rep have been notified.

I have been advised to put a 14 day notice on the horse, which I shall do. But meanwhile, if anyone is aware of any stolen coloureds, please PM me if it meets with the decription below.

Dark bay (almost black) skewbald. Trotter type (high Knee action). Sound. Entire - we guess about 3 years old, but haven't been able to examine teeth. Standing approx. 14 - 15hh. Unshod. Has a rug on. Appears to be in decent bodily condition. Has not been well handled - took 3 hours to catch.

Don't want to put too full a description at this point in time.

Location, Buckinghamshire.

We are aware that Reading Market took place yesterday.

Any leads/info/suggestions, please PM me.

I suspect he's been dumped if he's entire. At 3 years of age, he would have to have been chipped to be passported, bet he has niether.

What will you do if no owner can be found?

Update. Owners traced, all okay. Owners had had break-in (metal theft) and thieves had broken fences, horse strayed. Horse still safe with me as cannot yet be moved back because of snow, however owners have been down to feed etc. Glad to report a happy ending!

Glad this has had a happy ending and that the owners have been down - they must be so relieved that their horse is safe and well :)
