No idea if this is the right place to ask...

but there's a badge and a fox who've sadly been killed not too far from me (actually, there's 2 badgers and 2 foxes, but 2 are absolutely mangled) and they're in great condition.

It seems a shame to waste them. Is there anywhere about Milton Keynes that would skin them? Although I don't agree with the fur trade, I adore furs!

Please ignore me if I sound like a twit, I don't know how these things are done :P
 
I don't know anything about Milton Keynes but I'm sure there must be a good furrier for the fox even if you have to look slightly further afield - google can probably help. I'd advise you to stay well away from the badger. It's currently illegal to have a dead badger or any piece of a dead badger (e.g fur) in your possession, regardless of how it was killed, and the penalties are very steep, including prison.
 
Regardless of what the Law dictates regarding badgers (or part thereof!!), I once, many years ago and before they were given protection, had a go at skinning one. Hard work? Near impossible!

Aside from the legal implications, have you heard of a little thing called bovine TB?!

(eta - Alec, what was so hard about it? I've skinned sheep, greyhounds, cattle and bits of horse before but never had a crack at badger)
 
Generally, after the cuts are made, we use our hands and fingers to pull the skin from the body, don't we? With badgers (or the one that I skinned), the fat level was attached to the body and the skin, and 'pulling' didn't really work. I had to use a knife, for all of it. From memory, it took an hour, or so. Never again!

Muntjac aren't much easier!

Sadly I was too late for Mr. Fox (didn't touch badger, don't worry!...though someone has moved him!) he got well and truly splattered :\ positive someone was aiming for him, as he was almost completely off the road!

Turns out, V (the new guy I'm seeing) is the son of a butcher, so he's well used to skinning things. He said if he sees any reasonable foxes he'll get them for me :)

ETA: I did google one, but he's got some very very bad reviews :(
