I have a fox that comes into my back garden and trashes the damn thing - he digs holes, upsets my neighbours kids rabbits (they are in my garden at the mo due to building work). He is always in the bin scratting for food etc.... the thing is that he is a big dog fox - he is well fed - he is greasy from all the scraps! But lately there have been alot of cat attacks and deaths and we now have evidence that its him as someone caught him in the act. My neighbour has called the council pest control to get rid of him and they are due to come in the next few weeks but I have a great big dog that could sort him out - he comes in the garden without fail at the same time so - should I set the dog on him? - because I am sure the dog wont get near him and hopefully this would scare the fox away? I just dont want him poisoned but I am sick of him - if he gets my cat -I'll be cross!! He's a cocky thing - we think idiots have left food out in the past for him as he is very tame in an arrogant way! What should I do? I think if the dog did catch up with him the fox would fight back (he is cocky) which my dog would then tear him in bits! If he just runs my dog is stupid and will thinks its a game so will probably just scare him. A stupid post but I dont know what to do? Orange rat!

P.S - I dont think the concept of fox hunting is a bit mean but I am a pro - so I dont want this to be a debate abouts whats cruel and whats not etc....

I would be very inclined to have your dog in the garden and let him have a go; it might just cause Mr Todd to have a rethink if he is met often enough! Might buck up his ideas a bit that not everyone is friendly (or stupid enough to feed him)!

Echo what they other 2 have said above. Tis very annoying. Though even if he meets with your dog this time. He may well still return if you dog is inside. In winter we can tell when there is snow on the ground that a fox comes the the kennel yards most days.
Good look. Im sure if the council do get the fox then he will be in the countryside shortly & not last long!

On another note just a annoying niggle I get. Is 'HOW' do you know it is a DOG fox & not a vixen? Sorry just being pidatic. As the best Huntsmen in the world never knew till the hounds had caught it & 'had a look'.

Because it cocks its leg up when it wees and has a right pair of balls (Seriously!!) unless they are two great big furballs under its bum hole !LOL

I will get the dog to chase it off and keep the dog outside for the summer and hope the horrid thing starves in the winter!!

And WE are in the countryside - the lazy thing cant be bothered to hunt mice!

I urge you to employ basic techniques to discourage the fox from returning. For example, not leaving food out. If in doubt, ask any passing ten-year-old for further advice.

Shoot it!

Or leave your dog out, if it that cocky and your dog is big enough it will soon get the message.
ALso telephone your local kennels and tell them you have a fox in your area, if it is still about in the winter, this should do the trick.
Bloody thing.#

Do you actually read threads - I CANT PUT A LOCK ON THE BIN - COUNCIL WONT LET ME - they charge £300 per damaged bin !!!

LOL - will defo leave its carcass at number 10 - any Cameron is reviewing the hunting ban if he gets in (or so he says) so we may be in luck!!

How does putting a lock on a bin damage it? Nevertheless, if the fox continues to alarm you I suggest you call the emergency services.

Oh and I had a FUNNY method told to me today to catch a fox.

Make the noise you make to cats (that kissy kissy noise) to call it over, then kick it in the head!!!

Apparently works for some welsh farmer friends!

Well don't call the RSPCA! Especially if you live in a town or city! They just get dumped in the countryside cant fend for themselves and starve! It happens all the time here! I think I have now seen my hundredth fox dying of starvation! All I would say is do something which involves killing it. Catch it humanly, take it away and shoot it, snare it! Anything to kill one less oversized red rat!

I agree with Glamourdol and Tinkerbee, shoot or poison or set your dog on it.

The kissy kissy thing is called squeeking and it attracts the fox cause it mimiks the sound animals make when they're on their last legs (and my cousin did it once ).

And i'm feeling v anti cause one has just had one of our chickens, she was a pet same a if it was our cat.

You mean squeak it in? Yes works nearly everytime but I'm not sure kicking it in the head is humane pest control ;) And rather than kissy kissy, its better to suck your bottom lip - sounds like an injured bunnie then.

One has just taken the goose and her eggs off of our lake, the poor gander is looking very sorry for himself, getting a bit aggressive too. I'm sure it'll be back for him!

Well dont worry everyone - the fox has fallen - one of the neighbours down the road ran him over - she was gutted as she is an anti - Ha ha - how I did laugh - esp as she decided just to throw it in the bin after !!!!???? My partner as daft as he his went to see if she had done this daft act and there he was - in the bin - no bag or anything - my partner wanted the brush to turn into a brooch or something (he is so non horsey/hunt but hates do gooder antis ) so sneaked back like a scratter to cut the brush off and someone had already done it - and pinned it to her garden gate with a note that said 'evil murderer - love mrs fox' - it was sooo funny we left it !! she was out last night banging on doors - askin who had done it - and anyway she found out - that is was my nieghbour who just admitted the whole thing and proceded to leave the woman in tears - telling her how she better have her licence taken ...... LOL

Pinning body parts on private property, that sounds a bit, well, weird really. Freaks! (Yes BigBrother, I am aware that is an insult. Browbrow may report me at will, haha!)

Oh no - I agree with you !!! I thought the note was funny but not pinning the tail - even my other half thought it was a bit sick - we just laughed as the woman is so finiky and horrid!!

But you are right - its sick - I am not sure why my nieghbours did it as they arent horsey/pro/anti - I think the two parties hate each other - the police came up and sorted it in the end I believe !! Hee Hee

Lol Endy :) that reminded me of a meet just before Christmas a couple of seasons ago, antis near the pub, caused a great scene and really were honestly rude and ignorant (we were good - for once as we had two coppers with us) somebody -wouldn't have a clue who :) - put a dead fox with a christmas card in its mouth on their gate on Christmas eve...needless to say they weren't amused, and the whole thing ended up in the local gazette!

Aw I love a bit of animal body part based humour myself. As long as ppl don't start slicing bits off other ppl and hanf=g them up then it's all fine by me.
