Has anyone had a dog which got it? My greyhound started off with non-itchy scurf (around Nov/Dec last year) then it became itchy, now she is half-bald and obviously uncomfortable

The vet did a skin scraping for mange which came up negative but now he says she must have it, the symptoms look so similar, so she is being treated for it with some 'drop on the back of the neck' stuff

Yes, our GSD got it once, you must make sure that you get rid of it quickly, it not only is a skin irritant it send the dog into deep depression.

One of the plus points of living where we do now, the foxes are lamped so much that you rarely if ever (I haven't in over 3 years and go lamping and hunting regularly) see a fox with mange!

She had her first treatment on Monday, and I have been told to give her another one after 2 weeks, as well as bathing her in Malaseb twice a week. I have also treated my lurcher last night as he has started to scratch.

ETS - the greyhound is also on steroids to reduce the itchiness, not ideal as she is on heart tablets, but I guess the vet knows what he is doing!

I have just googled it - I didn't realise it was the equivalent of scabies - I feel really itchy sat at my desk now

A Hearing Dog I was socialising had mange. Apart from what you are already doing, I gave her 1000mg of Evening Primrose Oil a day. Just the normal stuff you get from Boots or Tesco. Seemed to help a bit.
