Foxy update - not good news

[Foxy girl]

Vet has just rung from Leahurst to say that basically they're trying to stabilise Foxy so she can come home to pass away where she's happy. She hates being stabled and although she's bright and ok, she's not improving and can't manage on her won without a drip. They think (and I agree) it would be best for her to come home where I can monitor the situation and make the decision when I think (and she tells me) it's time.

So tomorrow I need to call our local vet and find out what happens when the time comes. It feels horrid to be planning this but I want to make sure she's as happy as she can be right up until the end.

Thanks so much for all your support, I feel awful I'm not often on here to give the same back but your posts and emails have really helped. Can't imagine getting through this at the moment but I guess loads of you have been there and come through it so I just have to be strong for Foxy and make sure I make the decision before she suffers. Just hope I know when that will be...

If this is the case, then to be honest you would be much kinder to let her go now. A lot of us seem to have been in this awful situation recently - so my every sympathy goes to you.

However, a horse rarely passes away peacfully, and ultimately we have to just get on and do the job.

Amy May - I am taking my lead from Leahurst and wouldn't put Foxy through any further pain. She may well have to be put down there, and if so then of course I wouldn't push to bring her home.

Poor Foxy and poor you. I had to make that decision for my adored Highland x 2 years ago and I stayed with him right to the end. Of you want to know what to expect, send me PM and I'll talk you through it. Thinking of you both and all you have to face, but the fields in heaven are very green and anyone who tells you horses don't have souls has never loved a horse. xxx

What an awful thing to have to deal with. You know your horse best and what she would want, do what your gut instinct tells you is the best thing for her. Only you can decide how you go forward from here, my choice was taken away from me as we had planned a lovely final few weeks for my old boy and he collapsed bless him, so I fully understand you wanting her to be at peace at home where she is feeling safe and secure and only you can decide if she is able and happy for you to be able to get her home. I am still hoping that she makes a miraculous recovery, I hope you are able to have some quality time with her and have long lasting good memories.

So sorry to hear yr news, hp yr are able to get Foxy home and to be able to spend some time together before the inevitable, you've done everything you can for her just try and enjoy the time left together, thinking of you both x.
