I have seen a few posts about fractured legs and box rest, and just wanted to give everyone who is in that situation a bit of hope! My girl who is my first horse too fractured her leg in the field very badly (she pretty much had no splint bone left) two weeks after i brought her home. She was put on indefinite box rest and was told the prognosis wasnt too good as she had a raging infection which could go into her hock and if it did it would be emergency surgery and would be touch and go. I was devestated because i had looked forward to a summer of loads of fun, but luckily she was an angel on box rest and loved being pampered and lazy! After 4 months on total box rest with a huge bandage and no real movement i was allowed to walk her out for a little bit and then eventually was able to ride again. But, the box rest and the fact she is only five made her nappy and horrible, I could not even get out of the yard drive. After a lot of persistence, she has finally become the brilliant horse I know she always was. Now, with the help of my very brilliant instructor, she jumped 3 foot 3 for the first time on tuesday, 10 months after the initial injury! She is 100% sound, there are no issues (other than that I have her massaged for any remaining stiffness) and she is a happy healthy girl. So dont despair if you have a poorly pony, there are sometimes very happy and positive outcomes!

Gaaah! What would you know?!
Positivity is so draining.
