We are now 6 weeks 5 days after the kick! Lots of ups and downs but able to come out of box twice daily now to walk to a neighbouring stable whilst doing her bits and bobs! She is more stiff than lame I reckon, but not well enough to turn out as yet. She is still most happy tucked up in sickbay and is off all medication including bute. We are hoping for her to be able to be turned out by mid july (in time for school holidays). I think I will get another xray done before I turn her out though, just to check all is healing ok.

First xray, 10 days post kick.

Second xray, 2 weeks on to show bone callousing (outwards). Vet quite happy at this point with the healing.

Any fracture experts out there with some pointers would be much appreciated!:)

And I apologise for huge pics, I dont know how to scale down!

My mares was shattered in 19 pieces, A little way down the rd this will be well behind you with no future problems I bet as its not actually shattered.

I really hope so! Its awful not seeing her totally sound yet.....I suppose I'm just willing her to get well now so I can let her recover in the field! It really doesn't help that shes 20 so is stiffening up too.....even though I've popped her on superflex. Do you think that it will cause any further problems?

Interesting to see your xrays - I don't have Molly's yet although saw them as they were done.

Molly's fractured near the bottom of hers in 2 places, the 2 bits are detached and one is floating but no splinters - clean breaks. We have to have surgery :( just waiting for the date.

Her injury is 4 weeks old and no healing has taken place (not diagosed as frature until this week though) we all thought she had lymphangitis. She's pretty much sound though, just marginally off on trot.

Ours was probably caused by kicking herself and has no wound

Good luck!

Mine was a kick from another mare. Good luck with yours, I'm really hoping that this will be a success story and a few months from now I will be riding her again! That is, after the granulosa cell tumour is removed of course! The tumour is more than likely the reason for the kick!

my mare had a fractured splint bone years ago and it took blooming ages to heal -6 months, though it eventually did and caused no further issues, just looked like a splint bump in the end.
