As above really, my old mare Kelly who is 28 has a fracture of her splintbone, is there anything i can do or give her to speed aid recovery? She is not really that lame and is turned out on vet advice, she has a dressing on then vet wrap then a brushing boot. Ive been and bought 2 new pairs of brushing boots this after noon the wrap around type so she can have a clean pair every day.
Any other suggestions please

Mine shattered his splint bone on his hind leg 14 months ago. He has to have big chunks of it surgically removed & was on box rest for 4 months as it took a long time to heal enough to cope with the way Beem behaves in the field! The only thing I can add to what your vet has told you to do is to make sure she has a balanced diet which is rich in things like calcium to promote bone healing. I think Alan & Page do a convalescent diet which would do all this

my mare fractured her off hind splintbone in june this year.she had to have it surgically removed and then was on box rest for 4 months then start to ride her in walk before i put her out as she can be a nightmare and gallop aroung the field. i would also say give her a good balanced diet with maybe a mulitvitamin supplement and do as your vet advises however i would avoid her being out in a field that is heavy going as this could put more strain onthe leg. good luck
